Quoted from Derbyshire Live
Grimsby boss Michael Jolley welcomed Vernam to the club by saying: "Charles is a very good person and a very good player. We think he has got a lot of potential and with being from Caistor, he knows the area really well and is a natural fit.

Is this like when Hull were trying to get Humberside Airport renamed to Hull Airport?

Caistor is now apparently close to Lincoln!

I’m hoping he will be the 2022 version of Diddy Gilbert, who bloomed in his latter years during his spells with you and Northampton.

Think you will be disappointed then. Diddy was more consistent a player than I think Charlie will ever be, on his day Vernam can be a cracking player but tends to drift out of games too easily for my liking. Certainly has ability but he failed to command a regular place at Burton and was in and out at Bradford which suggests he has continued to be inconsistent since leaving town.

For me a 50/50 signing which could go either way.

We can't escape the fact he does have a very odd shaped head and a peculiar look.

Will fit in perfectly  around Lincoln .

I did say I’m an earlier thread that he has no loyalty and would sign to whoever wants to pay the most. Never had chance of getting him here and frankly I’m glad as I want players who play for the badge . No someone with the loyalty of a crack whore.

I'd disagree. During that great spell of form before the pandemic he looked really good and was being very effective instead of just running into blind alleys.

Whether or not he is able to be consistent enough as well, I don't know.

I think you know the answer to your final paragraph.

He’s ever really done anything consistently since he left and he did stand out in a poor town side. No doubt has ability but if I were a Lincoln fan, after the players they have had on loan and brought in in the last 4/5 years this one wouldn’t get you too excited…

I think he showed signs of being a very classy talented player.  I think slightly too timid for the physical scrapping in the National league but play him further up the football food chain and he will be a class addition to any team.

I have few Imps supporting friends and when asked I said in my opinion great player very exciting BUT not really a traditional Imps type player . I don’t know why but to me they have always since 70s been a strong long ball side and their fans seem to like that type of football and not sure Charlie fits that?

We’ve gone from one extreme to the other since the ‘model’ changed under Appleton. Technically as good as anyone on our day last season, but a soft touch at the back and powder puff up top …. I’m sure there is a happy medium somewhere, which hopefully Kennedy will exploit.

Paudie O’Connor appears to be a younger version of Waterfall, and we both know what a big game player he is.

I think Vernam will do well for you, he can be electric. Yes, a bit hit-and-miss, but I would have had him here in a flash.

i tend to agree, although i think it's a real 50/50 signing. will be very interested to see how it goes. thinks its unfair to say the imps are kick n rush. wasn't that the very reason appleton was brought in? i.e. to make them a 'better' team?

He will be frustrating with flashes of what he could maybe do until his contract nears its end then he will be brilliant for a few games. The fact he couldn’t get in the team and we sent him to non league for a bit and then many were disappointed when he left sums him up

Vernams inability to be consistent is the reason he’s bobbed around leagues 1 and 2 and has found his way to Lincoln.

Can be great and will change games but that’ll be once every 5/6 games.

It’s a solid signing for Lincoln but given we’re not sure on what the ambition is, it’s not really a stand out, marquee signing, not for me anyway.

I’d have had him back here but if you were to compare him to Mcatee, I know which I’d prefer.

Times last season when Mcatee was seemingly quiet and then up he’d pop with a significant goal or a great assist, that jjst didn’t happen enough with Vernam.
