I don’t ever remember Hurst making any marquee signings while there, possibly Richard Brodie and we all know how that turned out.

Splashing cash only get you so far and can cause issues among the dressing room etc.

We have to trust Hurst and we know he’ll bring in the right player, if he doesn’t he’s not frightened to sack them off.

A marquee signing is not the absolute end all . All we want is someone who can score on a regular basis for us. We cannot be reliant on Waterfall and other odd goals here and there.  I don't think that is too much to ask

Looking  back I'd say Michael Ready was our last real Marquee signing.  Struggling to think of many since I'd sit up and go whoa that's a real coup.

Bogle was one I would say, cost 50k, had a sustained high goalscoring record and was a striker that was rated/in demand.

Another one who had a bit of pedigree when he came to us was kristian Dennis, didn't play much for us though and was eminently forgettable. Played for Carlisle the other nite I think.

Looking back at that transfer window in the summer of 2004, Russell Slade pulled off some really big name signings.

Like you say Michael Reddy was a massive signing, seeing as he had played predominantly at Premier League / Championship level.

To name but a few....

Andy Parkinson as well, played for Tranmere in a League Cup final was one of their top players for years, signed from Sheffield United and had spent most of his time in the Championship.

Ashley Sestanovich on loan from Sheffield United, was hot property, had been a top player the year before on loan in the NL with Scarborough and had starred in the FA Cup, think they eventually went out to Chelsea.

Dean Gordon, left back from Coventry, had played most of his career in the Premier League with Palace and Middlesbrough, we were his first club outside the top two divisions.

Hard to think we finished below mid-table in the end.
