League appearances by 36 different players is also pretty nuts, and fairly unique for a team chasing promotion. As challenging as that tricky middle period was, I feel Hurst deserves some credit for the ongoing transition of the team. It's been like 3 seasons in one in terms of ins and outs.

At least 8 of those 36 players have played central midfield at some point too. The churn in central midfield is quite alarming and it surprises me that we've done well despite our midfield challenges.

We couldn't extend the Hunt loan so got Raikhy on loan; who got injured so we replaced him with Jones on loan; who got injured so we signed Holohan. Credit to the Hurst and the board for facilitating those replacements.

Then you've got Coke, Clifton, J Jones, Burgess who have all played in the middle at various points of the season.

I'm pretty sure if we don't get ourselves promoted this season, as is still likely, we'll have a better idea where we're starting from next season. No doubt Hursty will want to keep the core of this squad together and you'll see fewer changes as the season goes along. He's always been clear he prefers a squad of 21-22 tight-knit players, therefore spending more money per player and hopefully getting better quality.

I've wasted my life in black and white, a pathetic act for a worthless cause
