Liverpool fans showed their class , united in a fan-led minute of applause at Anfield in support of Cristiano Ronaldo and his family following the death of his baby boy.

Liverpool fans sang their club's anthem 'You'll Never Walk Alone' in the seventh minute.

On Monday, Ronaldo and partner Georgina Rodriguez announced the death of their baby boy, saying it is the "greatest pain that any parents can feel".

Ronaldo and Rodriguez were expecting twins.

Their baby girl survived, and they said her birth "gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness".

"Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you," they wrote.

RIP baby Ronaldo

Difficult to take much pleasure from United’s shoeing at the hands of Liverpool tonight, given the tragic circumstances affecting their team selection.

No team should have to field Phil Jones in their starting lineup.

To be fair this was more aimed at the gesture. The game and result is irrelevant

Was strange though, the way it was spun in the media was like it was going to be some big gesture, I think everyone expected a clap on 7 minutes and a song to be sung…

Liverpool fans show their class? You've obviously not been to many Liverpool games. It makes a change against Man U not to hear 'the Munich song'.
The Merseyside derby usually has a toxic atmosphere.
There is a myth around Liverpool supporters propped up by dewy eyed members of the media.

For the record, I have no interest in Liverpool or Man U.

My thoughts entirely. I’ve seen our fans getting robbed and. beaten up at Anfield. I despise them.
Where was all the gushing when our fans joined the minutes applause at Kings Lynn.
Liverpool fans only did what any other set of fans would have done in the circumstances.

Liverpool fans are, in fact, famous for their positive media representation. Who knew?!

Agree. Nasty bunch of supporters, the club is spoken about romantically all the time and people blow off about the atmosphere, but 100% having witnessed it myself a lot of them are cretins.

I know every club has idiots, but Liverpool fans have always been problematic.

Only just this weekend, there were videos of them attacking Man City supporter coaches, and apparently after accusing a small number of City fans of booing the minutes silence at Wembley it was said to have been Liverpool fans in the City end who were booing.

Either way, I've got no fondness for them regardless of what class some of them showed for Ronaldo.

They only did what any other set of opposition supporters would have done.

Doesn't really merit a mention on a Grimsby Town forum or are we going to have something like this every time another teams fans join in with a round of applause.

Why would Liverpool fans be booing a minute’s silence for Hillsborough victims? Just a monumentally stupid thing to say, let alone believe.

Absolutely right they aren’t.  But there isn’t a myth that Grimsby is a wonderful ground to come to where the fans are witty,  loveable rogues. We didn’t get the press and fans notice boards saying what a wonderful gesture it was on Monday for over half the crowd (which was us) joining in the minutes applause.
Why couldn’t Liverpool fans have just clapped ? Why sing THEIR anthem?  Why do they boo the National anthem ?
‘Scouse’ not ‘English’ my @rse.
I raised money for the Hillsborough victims at the time and would gladly do so again. But other than that they can get well and truly f****d as far as I’m concerned.

Well remember a group of around ten scousers running through town fans leaving Anfield after the 1980 cup trip swinging their arms with Stanley knives in their hands. Hated the illegitimates ever since.

To be fair, they love Pep much more than Klopp, who is arguably a better manager than Pep…

To cause trouble? To cause a reaction? Not all football fans go to the game to watch it.

It's not a stupid thing to say at all, if it's what was information passed on by folk who were there?

It was well known prior to the game that Liverpool fans were planning on buying up spare tickets that City didn't sell, both clubs had tried to get the game moved away from Wembley due to a lack of or no trains on the Easter weekend, City inevitably being the smaller national fan base sent tickets back. Liverpool fans were rallying up online about purchasing those tickets.

I know 6 or 7 people who went to that game on Saturday from both sides, and the Liverpool fans I know even said that they had Reds in the City end. Other City fans were complaining about being sat amongst Scousers, and a chap I know said the commotion and gestures didn't come from City fans.

Same here, I'll never forget getting picked on by Everton fans after the game when waiting for a bus back to Lime Street to get back on the special train, also a few windows put in on the train coming out of Liverpool back to Cleethorpes.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

shAt the 1980 game the Anfield Road end was full of Town fans.  Some fans, including families, went on the Kop in order to see the game.  They were made unwelcome and some kicked out.  Ending up watching Everton who were also at home in the FAC.

I agree with the above comments that Liverpool fans should be seen as most other fans.  Although their humour was apparent that day with chants of Kenny Dogfish and Jimmy Plaice etc.

Appears that at least 4 people believe slashing at opposing fans with Stanley knives is acceptable, strange world.
