Have to say he was immense today, his class and ability was there for all to see, but it's begs the question, is he worth another a deal?.
Personally I think he is, keep him fit and he's an absolute asset.

You can't exactly say he busted a gut and ran around a huge amount, but he didn't do much wrong and looked one of our few players capable of receiving and retaining possession under pressure and then finding a team mate more often than not.

I'm glad I'm not in Hurst's shoes trying to decide whether to retain him or not. Great ability but it would be a real gamble to give him another year.

Are previous injuries an accurate prediction of future fitness?  Not sure.  Must depend a lot on the type, frequency and seriousness of his injuries.  Hurst will be the  best judge overall.

See how he goes in the last half dozen games and hopefully play offs, then make a call. I’d be open to giving him a year. Got technique and class and experience.

Probably too much of a risk but good call by PH to start him today - deceptively quick with his languid running style...

He can play, he’s still quick and today showed his value & experience. If I recall right Taylor and Fox came here on the back of injury lay offs and they’ve done ok. Another year for me.

He was only left out because the manager preferred Sousa until recent weeks. He’s been fit since early December.

If the choice is either or, it’s Scannell for me.

The fact he’s still here and getting a starting slot (when the likes of Sousa can’t even make the bench) tells you he’s not your typical Holloway shyster. He looked pleased as punch at the end there - it will have been a while since he’s been able to enjoy a win like that on the pitch.

He’s got a lot of quality; any decision on his contract next season (regardless of what league we’re in) should be fitness based.

this in spades - he was excellent when he came on last week - my wife (first time she'd seen him play) commented on how it was obvious he was of much better ability than anyone else on the pitch

think there's deffo some sort of problem with his present contract. on the one hand he's the only one of Hollowhead's signings who has survived, yet has played so little despite being fit (have been relaibly informed that he's been match fit for the last 5-6 months)

The reality is that no other club will be in for him - not with his injury record. It’s too much of a risk, especially at this level.

So his position is probably ‘take whatever I can’. Not saying we should be tight or stingy but we’ve also got to be sensible. If he can stay fit, he stays.

A really basic wage with huge add-ons for appearances, assists and goals.

If Sean stays fit till the end of this season then we'd be daft (imo) not to give him another deal, considering how patient the club has been with him.

We've got him fit (for now) - and then get rid, doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Hurst mentioned he was a model (and uncomplaining) professional, and he comes across as pleasantly unassuming in the post-Stockport interview.

Plus he's better class than L2, were we to get there.

If he can't stay fit till the season's end ... then I guess it's got to be goodbye.

How many players with dreadful injury records suddenly start playing again as their contract nears the end? Would be a massive risk to give him yet more wages. IF he stays fit till the end of the season AND gets selected and plays well then a pay as you play type deal would be the only option.

We can't have as much in wages disappearing for non playing players as we have the last couple of years, of which he has been amongst the most prominent.

Watched the excellent series about Crystal Palace a few months ago. Set 10/11 seasons ago.  Surprised to see Scannell named as a Prem League sub when he was still young.  He has the class and ability to shine at this level and above.

He lasted 90 mins yesterday in a tough game and a warm day.  You have to be fit and selected even if playing for a contract.  Credit to him,  unfortunately Max has not made this progress,

I understand why JMD decided to opt to take it into the corner late in the game rather than squaring to an unmarked "Big Scanz" but it would have been the icing on the cake on a great performance.

He’s playing again because he’s got himself ahead of Sousa in the manager’s thoughts. He’s been fit and trained hard since December.

Said it many times before but Scannell has always been unfairly treated as a scapegoat by a large portion of our fan base.

I really rate him and I genuinely can’t remember him putting in a bad performance, despite being part of that mess last year. If we don’t go up, I’d personally give him another year because he’s better than this level if fit.

If we’re promoted? It might be a bit of a risk

You seem to be implying that there is something cynical in this? Like, he’s now interested in playing and doing well as he might earn another contract when he wasn’t before? He was injured. Now he’s not. What evidence is there to suggest he’s manipulating us, as your post infers?

Reality? You're joking right? He's 31 and fully fit.. We're lucky to have someone of his calibre at this level and you think he couldn't get another club in the summer? Hope he's in our squad next season.. whatever division we're in..

Read Swannys  (Hull co commentater) autobiography. He had a dodgy reports giving him medical all clears when he was after a new contract and somehow always got fit near the end of his contract. It does happen, and he was very good at it.
