I still think the bad run had more to do with McAtee being out.

Let's be honest, how many under 30 year olds really give a excrement about a team mate drink driving?

This is the thing when it was going bad we where right to ask for change. When things are going right no one cares  as long as we won. This isn’t a personal dig but in general at the forum

Where things “going bad” or where we just in a poor run losing most games marginally due to a lack of fire power and forced instability in selection rather than a Facebook conspiracy theory about the impact of a numptie caught drunk driving.

I'm not a fan of Hursts but he's or manager so got to support him as much as the players.
Just shows what a hard time managers have with supporters, a bloke behind me said (just before we scored today) "why has Hurst got no plan B he's excrement" he then goes on to say "why substitute a winger and not bring on another wide player in his place? Hurst is excrement"!!!!!
Just shows he just can't win

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Or he just got lucky? Thought yesterday, with Clifton having such a poor game, that it was crying out for Scannell to be brought on to play down that left hand side but Hurst obviously is only going to put him on if injuries determine we have no other option. Not an Hurst out supporter but equally I do get frustrated that he still doesn’t consider substitutes until 70 minutes have passed.

Think the just back thread would have been very different and a lot longer if that last minute winner hadn’t gone in but that’s football, never straightforward.

Yesterday was one of those games where no Town player was above a 7 yet we controlled the game, created a few chances we should’ve scored from before we did and kept going for the full 95 mins.

So while it might not have been a swashbuckling and free-flowing performance (which was down to both the weather and the opposition) it’s also hard to criticise anyone or anything.

I mean, Hurst has been hammered for his substitution policy previously. Yesterday he made a sub and the sub scored.

And this is the thing about Hurst’s tenure - we might not steamroller teams but they are professional and they keep going. They work hard for each other. I believe that if you keep doing the right things, success will come.

Had a bloke sat two rows behind me who was super critical of us. I get that we’ve played better in other matches but you couldn’t criticise the effort yesterday. We ultimately got what we deserved. Hope the players don’t listen to his exclamations of ‘bloody hell!’ each time one of our players made a sideways pass.

I've just had a look at our league form for the period that followed Ryan Sears late night decision to drive until our return from Covid isolation.

Wealdstone L
Notts County L
Aldershot L
Southend W
Solihull L
Dag & Red L
Chesterfield L

1 win in 7 before the squad got decimated with Covid and bowed out of the Trophy at Stockport with whatever players tested negative. Our form from our return is as follows:
Halifax D
Halifax L
Altrincham W
Bromley L
Wrexham L
Wealdstone W
Notts County W
Kings Lynn D
Aldershot W
Dover W
Woking W

6 wins and 2 draws from 11 since the turn of the year and unbeaten in 6 with 5 of them being wins.

If you take that 7 game period out our PPG is 2.13. If we achieved that through those 7 games (won 5 of them basically) then we would currently be sat 2nd, 3 points behind Stockport with a game in hand.

I don't know what happened in the aftermath of the Ryan Sears drink driving incident but that period aside, our form is absolutely excellent.

2.13 PPG over 37 games is 79 points plus the 3 points we picked up against Southend in that run of 7 games which should comfortably be enough for a play-off finish. If our form since the turn of the year continues (1.81 PPG) we are forecast to pick up another 25 points which will put us on 77 points. Not as good but should still be enough.

Yesterdays substitute was made in the 68th minute and it won the game?

I like the fact that we’ve won the last two without playing well. We now need to up our level.

I never understand this sentiment, feels like something people say to make themselves feel better about a below par performance.

Jury still out on Hurst for me but 16 points from 18 is as good as we could’ve expected and we’re right back in it.

This is a very drawn out way of saying we struggled against some decent teams without McAtee
