Beast of a centre half. Recollections of him being very strong in the tackle and also headed the ball miles..

Sorry to hear that. He was the archetypal no-nonsense defender, hard as nails and steady as a rock. RIP

Sad news.

Geoff Barker was the first choice centre half alongside Keith Hanvey the first season i started watching Town 1977-78 so I have a fondness for that team.

My condolences to his friends and family

RIP

RIP Geoff, remember him as being a proper centre back, tough tackling, no nonsense and always prepared to clear the Main Stand if necessary.

Geoff Barker an incredible footballer, he was a rock solid dependable defender, you could see his bald head knocking that ball away from dangerous positions, this man was as solid and reliable as any one we have today, God Bless you Geoff.

A proper Center half.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

So sad to hear this news.

Before Covid I used to meet up with Geoff and two of his footballing
pals for a quiet Monday afternoon drink. He hadn't been in good
health for a few years, couldn't drink alcohol but would sit with a
smile on his face and quietly recount stories of his very happy
days at Town.

An absolute Gentleman who will be sadly missed.

R.I.P. Geoff

The epitome of the no nonsense defender.

He is one of those players that those of us who saw him play will remember with affection and never forget.

Sad news indeed, RIP.
