Unfortunately there will always be a club or an owner with absolutely no moral compass that will take their chances on signing a convicted rapist.

Oldham tried it with Ched Evans before his rape conviction was quashed. A few death threats to the board and sponsors pulling the plug later, they soon changed their minds.

Speaking of death threats, things really aren’t looking good for Greenwood who has now been arrested on suspicion of additional sexual assaults and threats to kill. Lovely bloke, it seems.

His victim’s father’s next statement should be interesting.
His last one was weird for a father !!

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

With the investigation widening I would guess that it might not be ‘allegedly’ for long.

The audio of this is one of the most disturbing things I've ever heard.

Hearing it occur somehow sheds alarming light on the reality of such a crime - one that we generally only ever read about.

Don't know if anyone else has mentioned this but also extremely troubling was the fact that she saw fit to be secretly recording events in the first place. This clearly illustrates that the things we listened to must have happened many times over. Makes me shudder.

Must be a living nightmare for her parents to have endured the graphic reality of this. Difficult to know how one would react if that were your own daughter...

I doubt you or me would get bail!

Surely you remand him at the very least for his own protection. On remand, there is a lot more control over what he can and can't do, who can get to him and what he has access to. On bail for an offence of that magnitude with the consequences it will or already has caused for himself and his career, he poses a huge risk of self-harm or even suicide surely?

Doesn’t he need to be charged before being remanded? Otherwise the police would remand anyone vaguely annoying to them.

released on bail does not been the case has been dropped and there will be no charges, he will be under very strict bail terms and conditions surely and I like to think the police are currently gathering more evidence before they prepare the case for the CPS

Let’s assume he had denied it all or gone ‘no comment’ then there is the possibility of his girlfriend refusing to complain , that means everything needs to be proven before any charges can result with a reasonable chance of a conviction.
So bail gives the police time to gather the evidence, such as proving the voice is his, researching his movements and phone activity etc .

Mendy, similar crime, similar wealth, same job etc, released on bail.

Remand/bail, in this instance they don’t really differ too much. I appreciate one means they’re locked up, the other, in theory means they’ve still got their liberty but it’s not as simple as that.

I agree that had anyone on here done those things we may have found ourselves in the clink but given remand chaps get a different deal in prison, slightly different regime, remand wings and the like, it would actually be a difficult job keeping him safe and in mates away and so forth, hence why Mendy was given bail.

When convicted it will likely mean a prison sentence but again, regime is technically different and in theory gives the prison system opportunity to prepare. A millionaire footballer, with a profile heading in to a jail is a security nightmare for an already under pressure prison service.

Not saying it makes it right but was always likely to happen. It’ll be a significant length of time before it goes to trial too…
