As jamie findlater leaves and is replaced it appears the new guy will share his GTFC coverage with that of covering sheffield wednesday and Harrogate.
Looks like the GET will not be the place to go in the future for any coverage. Maybe this is reflected in the fact that aside from the May story it hasn't really been the place for some time.

The telegraph has been pap since they moved out of Grimsby , the journalists aren’t local and don’t really seem in tune with the way Grimsby folk think either . To be fair to them I doubt there’s many actually buy it anymore in a digital age

The Telegraph’s an absolute rag and there’s nothing you get in there that isn’t covered in the stuff put out by Humberside or the Club itself.
You get 1 interview cut into 7 or 8 clickbait pieces through the week, then a standard match report. Not sure you’re going to miss a great deal.
Good work by Findlater on the Alex May stuff, but that’s been the only worthwhile thing to come out of that load of junk for years and years.

Do people still pay for this paper? Used to get the Saturday Telegraph sent to me years back, had all the sport reports in that as well as an assessment report on Grimsby and Scunthorpe. In the days before teletext, was the only source of the football scores after an afternoon stood in the Pontoon!

The only time I ever bought that rag was when they had vouchers for cheap entry to BP. Normally about half way through the season. When yet again moral was low so JF was struggling to get fans in.
I get the feeling I won’t be buying one any time soon 😀

FYI: proofreader not proof reader. There's an unnecessary space between needed and exclamation mark Another unnecessary space between abound and exclamation mark. Second exclamation unnecessary. You're welcome.

It’s a sad fact of the modern day that local news is no longer local.. our rag is filled with generic national tripe that is rolled out throughout the Reach Group, you may as well be reading the mirror. God help anyone who happens to trawl through the online version, inundated with bingo and lottery ads. As a local sports fan the Grimsby Evening Telegraph was a paper that represented every person in this town and was the go to place for news on obviously town but also the amateur and junior leagues, rugby Union , market rasen races etc. Today nothing , it’s like clee town don’t exist to them.
It amazes me how the paper can generate 3 days worth of reports out of one hurst interview.
If only the cleethorpes chronicle was still going

It's gone completely downhill since it became part of the Mirror Group. It's full of misleading sensationalist headlines, frequent spelling mistakes, very poor grammar and virtually non-existent proof reading. In fact very much like The Daily Mirror.

I'm amazed it hasn't gone down to a weekly publication yet, like the Scunny Telegraph did quite a while ago.

It's a shame really, it should be a real positive that we do have a printed daily in the area, many places don't. If only it truly was local and was somewhere like the quality that it was years back...

They did that because the number of Scunts who could read didn't justify a daily paper.

To some extent they are a master of their own downfall due to a lack of local quality driven by a lack of investment but at the same time, trends have changed.
We consume media through our phones, tablets and computers now which is monetised completely different.
That said, recent articles generate clicks which is what they need.

When Reach bought the Grimsby Telegraph it became obvious that it was a tool to sell advertising, national and local. The content was immaterial to profit which is why we lost the local editorial team and reporters.
Unfortunately for the youth growing up, they will not know what a great newspaper we had, I remember the Saturday sports edition. I believe there were 3 local editions plus coastal editions and 1 for the villages.
Whether you liked Geoff Ford or the late Charles Eckberg they gave a true report of the happening at BP, and not words to fill a page. I would like to think that there is only one place left for the once great GT but hygiene laws have stopped it.
Fish and Chip paper, but then again the quality of the newspaper its self has gone downhill!

I think it's gone to a sort of publication that Dave Gorman highlighted. They just use templates. He showed a story in one part of the country and then pointed out a story in another part of the country. They just change the details.

Doesn’t matter if it’s the LA Times or the Grimsby Telegraph print media is on it’s last legs. We live in an instant world, Twitter, Facebook, 24 hour rolling news. 20 years ago seeing ‘breaking news’ on the tv meant a major catastrophe was unfurling, now it happens 10 times a day and was on Twitter 20 minutes before.
In the past the papers where the only way businesses and organisations could promote and publish their views now clubs like Grimsby can publish directly through YouTube and the papers can only really give an opinion on what happened yesterday.

Its the same with our local paper owned by Reach. Online every other report is about somewhere the other side of the country, 50% is just copy and pasted from FaceSpace, basic quotes about incidents from the various services such as "One Ambulance dispatched to incident 11.54pm one person treated at scene" and quotes from witnesses who didnt see anything with typical quote "there were 3 police cars and an ambulance and the road was taped off its normally really quiet around hear" Horrendous spelling and grammar errors as well, It has become joke.

I read an article the other week that said the river Anchome flowed thorough Scunny and Barton and was a tributary to the river Humber. The GT is not bad or poor but pathetic.

The quality has collapsed in recent years- move to Leicester, loss of local editor, and absence of any spelling and grammar checks. Where there were once reporters, it now feels like the articles are written by teenagers.

I'm pretty sure the Ancholme ends at South Ferriby and meanders into the Humber from there.

The Humber is formed by the Ouse and Trent joining, the Ancholme has a sluice and lock pit to join the Humber.

Reach may have bought it, but it was the Daily Mail company that wanted to get rid, the Daily Mail trained them, with their terrible slanted right wing reporting, it was never a good paper for Grimsby, biased Tory rag...good riddance...

Also amazed it still exists in print form. I can't imagine many people under the age of 55 buy it these days, fair enough that's still a sizeable demographic but it's not going to get any better for them.
In fairness, moving to a more online platform is just moving with the times. Print media is, with a few exceptions, as dead as a dodo. But moving to a more modern platform shouldn't mean the quality reduces. Look at something like The Athletic. That's purely online but the content is exceptional because they employ proper journalists who report on relevant topics. Grimsby Live on the other hand has some idiot reporting stories like "Here's what I saw down Freeman Street" or "My top 10 streets in Grimsby beginning with the letter C". I think the saddest thing of all is that this clickbait approach is probably just as, if not more, profitable than drawing readers in with decent content.

So that makes the Ancholme a tributary of the Humber, no?
It only flows into the Humber when the sluice is lowered. The lock pits always have 1 set of gates shut so the water cannot flow into the Humber. Quote from Wiki :- "The Humber is a large tidal estuary on the east coast of Northern England. It is formed at Trent Falls, Faxfleet, by the confluence of the tidal rivers Ouse and Trent" My main point being was that you cannot trust a word in the GT or GL as they make up stories as they go along. Barton does not have the River Ancholme flowing through it. I just dread to think what this new guy is going to write about Town.

The Ancholme is a tributary of the Humber, as is the Freshney, and the River Hull on the North Bank. A river that flows into a larger river on its way to the sea is a tributary, the addition of sluices or locks by human beings doesn't change that fact. The Ancholme doesn't flow through Scunny or Barton though. So the bloke is a muppet.

The website is almost unusable. Smothered in pop ups and adverts and click bait, it’s pretty much a waste of time at best, and at worst, infuriatingly slow, irrelevant and unenlightening. What a sad decline due to commercial priorities. Like most other things.

I sold the ET in my shop for 48 years . At its peak I was selling 450 copies per day . When I retired a few years ago that was down to just under 100 . The ET went down the pan when it left Grimsby printing to go to Leicester and Derby . When I retired circulation was 16000 per day . I shudder what to think what it is today . We are lucky that we have a local daily paper . Many larger towns do not . Scunthorpe Evening edition went weekly about 10 or so years ago . The standard of reporting is really shocking since moving out of town . The only way to keep it in print daily is to buy it .
