He's been working at the club for years in different roles so maybe they thought they already had a suitable candidate who shared their vision for the club. These sorts of roles are very rarely advertised anyway and often people move up the ladder internally. I don't recall any of Fenty's yes men doing anything at the club other than being there to give him more votes and power, they had strange advisory roles and didn't have shares of their own or contribute financially to the club.
