Great finish that is, looked good in the flesh from the upper but very good from that replay.

What a finish. Only a small snippet of highlights but I like what I've seen. Ball on the floor, hold up play, players running at defenders... Utfm

Nice footy and a quality goal. Some defensive uncertainty in second half could have been punished by a better opponent. Need to create more in final third.
However a solid start. Well done to the boys and the crowd.

Excellent team play and finish.
Some good passages of play in there. Looks promising.

To be fair there weren't many more highlights if any.

I’m guessing the commentary is added afterwards? Prefer it without tbh. Just my personal preference and not a criticism of the commentator.

Thanks for that. Was at the game but still waiting for the highlights is a nightmare, must have been awful for those not in attendance. As for the goal, brilliant finish, took it in his stride and stroked into the bottom corner, keeper never even bothered. Mcatee made that look very easy, long may that continue. UTM

I really don’t understand why the arrangement with the highlights is what it is. Is there some sort of commercial reason why fans in the national league receive a vastly inferior service with regards to the production of highlights?

These were filmed by the usual Town video team that have done the filming for years. Highlights can be seen at the gound in the bars at half-time and full-time as I saw them. My understanding is that the BT highlights are filmed at each club by students who send the game live to BT so there should be different highlights when BT get their act together.

It is down to the contract with BT Sport so there is a commercial reason, probably the best that the NL could have got.

As an exile I'd be willing to pay for full match replay after the final whistle, even the next day. Very frustrating.

They've done wonders with that pitch considering how crap it was last season.

Not really; as a commercial agreement it’s very poor and reeks of laziness on behalf of the NL. It’s reasonable that BT want to protect their own interests, and a rule whereby clubs cannot upload highlights until a period of hours post any BT highlights show would have been understandable. But two days following the game, in particular when BT have opted not to run the highlights show anyway, is ridiculous. Uploading footage after the game can’t have a negative impact on viewing figures for a show they can’t even be arsed to broadcast. I’m pretty sure some minor revisions to such a clause could have easily satisfied both BT and clubs / fans. But that would have meant sending a short email, which the powers at the NL apparently couldn’t be bothered to do.

I'd be quite happy to pay full price to watch the games, both home and away, like last year on ifollow. There's nothing in the BT contract to benefit fans who cannot attend matches for heath reasons.

The pitch had a good surface but was playing a bit slow in the first half, especially. Probably due to the sun and wind drying it out a bit . The pop-up sprinklers at half-time helped speed it up a little.

thanks for that - good little package summarising the day. Some nice football although i noted 2 bits of iffy defending from efete. very good goal.
just 1 question - there were a few people sat in the Osmond corner. Were they Weymouth or Town fans?

I think you are missing my point, not saying it was a good contract but as Sky are not interested or BBC and ITV, BT were probably the only company interested so it was likely the only offering giving the NL not much say in the type of contract. twits like BT will do anything to try to get more subscribers.

I think you’re giving the NL too much credit. It’s not really a case of having a strong hand to negotiate with, it’s just a nonsensical clause in its current form which could have been better implemented in the interest of fans without any detriment to BT. As I pointed out, BT didn’t even air any highlights this weekend and so there were literally no viewing figures or advertising pounds to protect. All it achieved was ensuring fans had no way to view footage from their teams games for nearly two days. I cannot believe that something more sensible couldn’t have been sorted out had someone tried.

Just a mention for how good that goal was. Great play and awareness by Max and Lennie, but that first touch from McAtee to drag the ball from behind him and then have the composure while defenders chase him down to pass the ball beyond the keeper showed absolute class. For a young player, this lad has loads of potential.

Still not sure how we didn't score a couple more and looks more crazy from the angle of the highlights. Pearson looked like he already made his mind up to appeal the handball and run at the ref instead of attacking the ball on the line. Sousa probably should have scored that one on one and he couldn't quite connect with a ball bouncing around the area, on another day who knows.
Goal when it did come was well taken and looks better on the highlights, really nice move to get McAtee through on goal. I imagine if that was a goal scored against us people would have been blaming McKeown for it and saying he didn't dive lol.

Hurst mentioned it in his post-match interview - implying potential to get injured and McAtee's cramp later on - I think there will have been an arm over the shoulder moment a la the Battle of Britain movie scene when the young pilot does a victory roll over the airfield - "it takes a long time to train people like you, what would have happened if your controls had been damaged - never again understand..."

Thanks for posting that arry. The noise of the crowd before kick off and then immediately after the goal was LOUD. Hairs on the back of my neck stood up. Some nice interplay and the goal was very well taken.

Let’s hope we finish the season like the Longest Day. Key objectives secured. But I suspect it’ll be more like A Bridge Too Far.
