D5 Football Is the new sister podcast of the D3D4 Podcast. They’ve done their league prediction for 2021/22…

1 Wrexham
————————-
2 Stockport
3 Chesterfield
4 Notts Co
5 Grimsby
6 Bromley
7 Eastleigh
—————————
8 Torquay
9 Dag & Red
10 Solihull Moors
11 Southend
12 Yeovil
13 Barnet
14 Altrincham
15 Halifax
16 Borehamwood
17 Maidenhead
18 Aldershot
19 King’s Lynn
20 Woking
—————————
21 Weymouth
22 Wealdstone
23 Dover

Not sure they are as knowledgable about players as the guys on the D3D4 podcast. They name checked Scannell & Waterfall as our good players along with Shaun Pearson.

Looks like the typical predictions the national press make.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Even if you don't go up automatically a 2nd or 3rd placed finish looks such a big advantage the way they have remodelled it.

Haven't looked at the stats though?

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Love the fact they used Scannell and Waterfall as examples of why we’re going to be in the playoffs.

I assume they mean Scannell and Waterfall staying out of the team gives us a good chance of the play offs?

And here's the current odds for the Top Goalscorer, look away now if you are a Town fan of a nervous disposition.

Scannell is a liability and probably will be injured most of the time but Waterfall still has a lot to offer for us in the National League IMO.

For those at the Rotherham game, waterfall had an absolute blinder, if he replicates that in the national league he'll be an asset, words I never thought I'd utter after last year's debacle

What's quite interesting looking down that list is some of the other signings made by our rivals that have gone a little more under the radar, as well as players they already had at their disposal.

Mullin to Wrexham, Quigley to Stockport and Tshimanga to Chesterfield are all impressive, standout signings at this level, but something like 12 of the top 15 in that list are at either Wrexham, Stockport, Chesterfield, Southend or Notts County.

Paddy Madden at Stockport shouldn't really be down here, Danny Rowe at Chesterfield is better than this level, Rhys Murphy at Southend scored 29 in 58 for Yeovil, Jack Hyde at Wrexham scored 1 in 2 at Halifax last season, the list goes on.

Fans getting in a fizz over a striker in pre-season is almost cliché, but on paper we definitely look outgunned by others at present.

Danny Cowley realised pretty quickly that Waterfall wasn’t good enough at L2 level and replaced him with Michael Bostwick. Tier 5 or National League he most definitely is, so you may see the best of him this campaign.

That list tells you all you need to know. Always playing catch up and never seemingly on the front foot with strikers, and some posters wonder why some of us are voicing concerns. All this "we are going to be ready for the season with a full squad" has disappeared under the minute we have to compete for strikers.

Obviously we have to leave it to Hurst to get someone in, but why we cannot compete with clubs of a similar size in the same league God only knows.

Rewriting history. Shrewsbury (in League 1- a higher division at the time) triggered the release fee in his contract. If he wasn’t wanted by Danny Cowley how come he was still club captain when he chose to join Shrewsbury?

Oh and at Boston a bloke stood next to me made me laugh when Waterfall headed over from a corner. He said “He’d have put that away at the other end”.

I'm still bemused that Runaway wanted us to play out from the back and extended the contract of our worst ball playing defender.

Waterfall certainly isn't a ball playing defender but he gets stuck in and is probably a decent no nonsense defender at this level.

What odds can we get for McAtee?  Might be worth a punt.
