Is Lew really a contender? He did get more wound up with the statement from the club than seemed necessary, but from what I've seen over the weekend, there are probably 95% of people not wearing masks despite the government encouraging them. So despite all of the bickering, most people would seem to be in line with his train of thought. |

I am honoured in a way to be in the running with some of football's greats.  I think I may have found a possible explanation why my post, and subsequent defending of it wound people up so much. My understanding of the word "encouraged" was to mean "persuasion to do or continue doing something" (from the Oxford dictionary) which I found unnecessary as people were free to make up their own minds now that restrictions had been lifted and I knew it would be ignored anyway. However, the Oxford dictionary also says it can mean "the action of giving someone support confidence or hope" which is much less of an instruction but more of a precautionary note which is not a problem as I said at the start that anybody wishing to wear one, even outside, of course can if they so wish. Another possible explanation, and more likely, is that you lot think I am a twit. |

The poster in question made a point about a football club on a football forum, about a request by that football club for people to wear a mask at a football match, and then proceeded to discuss what people did at that football match. As opposed to the other candidates who let themselves down in various ways away from football. |
