Not sure if this has been mentioned before but if it has I must have missed it.

Anthony Limbrick is now manager of Welsh team New Saints who are playing in Europe tonight.

Pleased for him, a good bloke.

'I walked in the dressing room. The window was open and I thought that a sea fret had got in. Then I saw smoke billowing from a pipe in the corner of the room...it was my centre-forward. He looked seven stone wet through. He went on to score thirty-odd goals that season.' Lawrie McMenemy on encountering the legend that was Matt Tees.

Anthony must have thought he had something. Let’s see how he does in Europe.
Didn’t realise New Saints were based at Oswestry.

Well, they're just won 5-0 away from home.

The home team might as well not bother traveling for the 2nd leg!

I think that was proven to be BS. Ian Holloway chose to get rid of him. I seem to remember Phil Day finally admit that in his post relegation apology statement after the club had thrown Limbrick under the bus at the start of the season.

I have also spoken to AL who came across as a really decent bloke.

We were making slow progress under Limbrick. Hollowman came in and his name ("brand") helped us bring in some quality which we were clearly lacking and the results improved. But take Limbrick's work behind the scenes out of the equation and we ended up with the chaos of last season.

Andrew must find this managing lark a doddle. Already 3-0 up at halftime that's 8-0 on aggregate.

It was always an interesting one because I saw him play in the trophy and he looked like a half time raffle winner but he was on the books of Liverpool from the age of 8 and handed his debut by Wigan in the Championship at 16/17 so he must have had some serious talent as a youngster.

We picked him up from the Spanish equivalent of League 2 but I don't think their fourth tier is anywhere near the standard of League 2.

He has since gone on to do well in Wales but then again, Sisay came here having done well in Wales.

Macca raves about him in his interview on the podcast. Said he’s extremely talented but ultimately couldn’t transfer it on to the pitch when it counted which is a shame.

It was Soares he was talking about.

He seemed a real statement signing at the time, tearing it up in the Conference for Hayes with something like just under a goal a game that season.  Then just looked incredibly average, to the point he was virtually a by stander when he played.

The scary thing is that it was 9 and a half years ago when we signed him!

Yeah soares was totally overwhelemed by the size and passion of the support and the pressure it resulted in. Needed to be playing in front of a few hundred with low expectations to turn it on, or in training as well obviously.

I recall him commenting on the size of the findus stand when he signed.

Had been doing really well but we may as well have been playing with 10 men when he came on for us, like a rabbit in the headlights.

Another excellent performance it seems in the 3rd qualifying round for Limbrick's team. Currently 4-0 up at home to Viktoria Plzen after 76 minutes.

That’s an incredible result. A won would have been a great achievement but 4-0. Could look back in a few years time and regret letting Limbrick go.

They'll no doubt be a bit disappointed with the final result of a 4-2 win, having conceded goals in the 89th minute and the 5th minute of stoppage time.

Still a decent 2 goal advantage to take  to The Czech Republic for the 2nd leg.

Cracking result that. Plzen are no Lincoln Red Imps; 5th in the Czech league last year, having finished in the top 2 for 8 years before that (playing in the Champions League (proper) a couple of times). .

Look at our best and worst results under Runaway. Our best results coincided with Limbrick being around.

I hope he makes a name for himself in the game and gets TNS to the group stages.

For balance, Limbrick was also at the club when we went 15 games without a win in 19/20.

(Do any other clubs have the amount of these terrible runs that we do?!)

Our best results also coincided with having players like Charles Vernam in our team, and having had a full pre-season behind us.

Totally agree with the argument, by the way — that we also had a very qualified and very capable assistant manager. Just pointing out a few other things we had that the board and the manager, in their wisdom, decided to get rid of entirely.

Sadly lost tonight in Europe on pens, robles scored again to give them a 5-2 lead but conceded 3 2nd half goals.

Well, TNS went out of Europe tonight in fairly heartbreaking circumstances against Viktoria Plzen.

Having led 4-0 with only minutes remaining in the 1st leg, they conceded 2 late goals to only win 4-2, however, tonight Louis Robles scored early on to put them 5-2 up on aggregate, a lead they still held at half-time.

Plzen equalized on the night and with 5 minutes left TNS still held a 5-3 lead. However, they conceded 2 late goals again and with no more goals in extra time the tie went to penalties which Plzen won 4-1.

A bunch of part-timers travelling half way across Europe? They'd have been cream crackered after 90 minutes, I expect. Did well to take it to penalties, that being the case.
