Big unit. Physicality up top appears to be the thinking.

Averaged about one in four prior to his recent time with Bratfud and Vale. Was he used more as a sub there?

Definitely think it looks be that approach.  Listening to the Gritton podcast last night and his description of Taylor, he seems very similar in attributes to LJL.  Brings others into play, holds it up, acts as a foil for others.  Totally honest I can't remember an awful lot about Guthrie's style but his height suggests he's a similar ish type player to the other central strikers.

I'd never really fancy having two big units up top but it all depends who you surround them with I guess.  In Grant, Wright, Scannell, Sousa and McAtee there's plenty of mobility to add to the options.

It didn't happen often - and, granted, it was in a 4-4-2 - but I always remember how LJL and Ollie Palmer absolutely ran the show in that play-off win over Eastleigh (in 14/15 was it?).

Both big, but both were also mobile. Both had a presence and chased things down. It wasn't like they played like that fat lad at Lincoln.

Ollie was probably more of a finisher but that was the season when LJL got 20 (or close to it). Absolute nightmare for defences.

Palmer was 6 in 13 for us that season, which gets you 20-25 over the season.

Arguing against my own point about two big lads up top but you're right, they worked perfectly and were a real handful to say the least.  I guess at that point in their careers they both had plenty of movement to bring to the table.  We also benefited from having Nathan Arnold cutting in off the wing which added to the chaos.

Probably a single big unit striker in a 3 up top isn't it going to be? Just summising

No disrespect to you my friend but Hurst seems to know what he doing, we only think we know. Would I want to be a football manager, no way?

With Taylor and Lenny injured i would think we need to bring in 2 strikers as it stands.

I'm not sure how you interpreted this post, I wasn't slagging PH off, all I was saying is that we all think we know who's coming to the club, then  out of the blue PH surprises us with a couple of really good signings.

My apologies if I have upset you. I did not wish to do this but was merely agreeing with you. What I am saying is that reading the many threads and posts about incoming players we all have our opinions and thoughts who would be good for the club, but we are only amateurs. PH is a professional.

Once again my apologies as no offence was intended.

He was good for a few teams we played against, chances limited in recent times so maybe that's why he'll consider dropping back down a league for the right deal. Scored a fair few goals, tall but I don't know if he's really physical more of a Peter Crouch lanky deal with long legs and slim. Dangerous on corners with his height if we can get somebody who can take a corner for him to use.

He’s nearly 4 and a half inches shorter than Crouch, and nowhere near as gangly either.

I’d take a Peter Crouch though thank you

Bradford fans telling us to stay away. Prior to Bradford he seemed ok. Not entirely sure anyone can be properly graded on the last two seasons. Apart from Ian Holloway.

I seem to remember him being pretty big/strong but also good with his feet/skilful when playing against us away at Stevenage.

Bradford were a bit basket case when he was there weren't they?

You're right though, I think the last two years have to be taken with a pinch of salt.  Prior to that his record is decent enough if not outstanding.

Was he the No 7? Absolutely bossed the first half, was quieter in the second. We were sh*t though.

His first that night was hardly a tap-in either. Nathan Arnold's just one of those players who, when you think of, just brings back happy memories. And there haven't been too many like that at BP over recent years.

Looks quite handy here, decent size, fast with quick feet.

If we can rediscover his form from a couple of years ago we should have a decent striker for this level.

I seem to remember him scoring against us with a a backheel flick from a low cross at the front post, in an away game, assume that was for Stevenage as I know it wasn't Fale or Bradford

Can’t believe he’s only 28, seems to have been around forever. Bradford seems to be a bit of a striker’s grave yard, they’ve more strikers than the NUM and most seem to struggle to meet the expectation. Wouldn’t turn my nose up at him, decent finisher and a good size. Always thought he was a bit languid, so will depend if Hurst can get it out of him.

Very true, a bit fortuitous though. Wasn't great keeping and it was straight down the middle, I seem to remember? Having said that, he caught it well and it set the tone for the entire performance across both games. Might have turned out differently had he not had a crack there.

Hurst doesn't usually do, languid, as far as players are concerned.

Who knows, though? It's amazing how many players do well at one club and then are absolutely awful at another (usually us).

Its a hell of a long time since I have seen a striker score so many with his head.

With a couple of wingers who can get the ball into the box at a good headable height, hes the sort of player we want on the end of it.
