Kevin van Veen has laughed off suggestions he could move to Grimsby Town following his departure from Scunthorpe United???

“If Paul Hurst does give me a ring, I will definitely see what he’s got to say, but at this moment Scunthorpe United was my club and Grimsby were the rivals, and that’s how I celebrated, and I would still stand behind that.”

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

I actually quite like that he takes the rivalry seriously. I wish some of the other crap Scunthorpe have sent us in the past *cough* Peter Beagrie *cough* thought likewise and did not join us.

I hope you're not including Terry Barwick in that category.

And KVV would be an excellent addition for any NL team.

I can't see Hurst even looking at Van Veen, when he was Scunny manager didn't he drop him for a long time?

No, I think we had an injury at the start of the season and missed the first month & was a regular from the start of September until Hurst & Swann fell out.

Remember how he was sulking when the Town fans were giving him grief?

Doesn't seem like a Paul Hurst type to me, goes missing when the going gets tough.

Very good player at League Two level who will have a lot better offers elsewhere plus he’d probably want too much in wages.

A contract that puts him in the shop window by scoring a hatful in the NL might be attractive. But it is all fairyland stuff really. Some L2 or even L1 club will most likely sign him before July..

Yeah, fair play to him for the knee slide. If players are taking it off fans and they ping one in (it was a great finish too to be fair) then they're well within their rights to do that, in my opinion. We'd have been buzzing if one of our lot did that to them, like we were when Ben Futcher sssssshhhhush'd the Lincoln fans in 2006.

If he came to us opinion would be split, his previous antics and Anti-Town rhetoric obviously makes him unpopular but secretly I think lots of Town fans would be moderately happy with the signing from an on the field perspective because lets face it...at this level he would be a good signing for anyone.

He's a divisive figure (even amongst Scunny fans) and for that I can't see Hurst going for him. It's a bit of a bizarre statement to make though, it's like... "I love them, and I hate them but if the they want me I will go, but if I do go I may not be very good...and If I do go i don't want to upset anyone...but yet I'm willing to if it's right for me"

What he really means is ' If they want to offer me some ridiculous amount of money I'll come '. We don't want mercenaries when you're building a team.

He's a good player with a decent sense of humour and he understands the rivalry. At the end of the day he's just playing up to it and being the pantomime villan.

But we've nursed James Hanson through two years of injuries on presumably decent money and we cannot afford to do that again.

I'm old enough to remember us signing Kevin Kilmore and that didn't turn out too bad.

This in spades.
His last interview with the telly wag the other night summed it up,  he thought he had a contract offer on the table with Scunny last year, was told to concentrate on rehabilitating his injury and the contract would be sorted when he returned ....he returned played a game and then his hamstring went.
Too old to lay up for a while and then come back in  without something else flaring up......just like Hanson unfortunately.

Tbf Brodie was naff for most teams he played for in his career. Very much the definition of a one season wonder that got too big of a head after getting big offers on the back of that, he pretty much threw his career away being lazy and unfit after one good season.

Wouldn't necessarily say one season wonder but understand what you mean. Brodie was hammering them in left right and centre for about 2 or 3 seasons for York when they were at National League level. I remember Fenty having a bid knocked back as "derisory" whilst we were about to die a horrible death first time around.

I don't think he was that bad in his first year at Crawley after he went there but after he fell out of contention with them he absolutely plummeted. He's had 19 clubs I think since he left York and lets face it when he eventually did come to us he was still moderately decent in terms of reputation as he was thought of as off form not past it. I think his failure at Town was the start of the slide as it has been for many other players over the years.

That must have been my Tony Daws at Town highlight.

3 league appearances last season! And looking at his stats more than a quarter of his career goals come from a single season in the Netherlands' (amateur) "Topklasse Sunday" league. Would be very risky, although the fact he's talking this up suggests he is not confident of getting a gig any higher than the National League.

If Hursty wants to dramatically reduce numbers of squad players the last thing he needs is another sicknote. Yes KVV would be the kind of experience we would love in the ranks but potentially being out due to injuries, minor or major, doesn't bode well

He did alright at Southport in 14/15, (inevitably) scored the winner at BP during our dire start to the season.

I assume he responsibly invested the huge wages Crawley paid him for 3 years, he seemed like an intelligent chap.

This side of the North Sea that sounds like an oxymoron
