Nathan Pond won 6 out of 9 games for AFC Fylde in the games he played, then the season was voided with them 2nd from top.  He was their club captain, but has been released by Jim Bentley.

Blackpool Gazette article on Nathan Pond >> https://www.blackpoolgazette.c.....is-confirmed-3236079

Pond actually played a few days ago on 2 June 2021, an international game for Montserrat, they won 4–0 (okay it was US Virgin Islands) and he scored, so he's kept himself fit.

He's getting on abit now, turned 36 in January, doubt Hurst would go back in for him would he

Quite frankly if we haven’t reanimated Pat Glover by the end of July then Hurst and the board want sacking.

A fleeetwood supporting colleague says pond was still a very capable player at Fleetwood.

Can’t see the problem bringing back any players as long as they can produce the goods at this level and they are within budget. What’s the aversion for some bringing in older players, or players that have played for us before? It’s nothing to do with nostalgia, it’s about building a squad that can quickly get us back in the league. If Hurst believes certain players can do that, then so be it.

Think having Pond back is “ all water under the bridge” now.

I would assume so also. I was just thinking back, Hurst signed Danny Collins aged 36, who is the same age as Pond.  Paul Futcher was signed aged around 35, those two did a good job dropping down the league tiers for Town.

I'm not sure what other centre-backs we signed around that age over years, I'm sure some Grimsby Town knowledge experts on the Fishy of various generations will know

I think the difference is that Pond would be coming up a league and Collins came down at least one to play for us.

Pearson is in the squad for his knowledge of the level, character and leadership qualities. He will be great at bringing along Goundry and Idehen if they are ultimately good enough but he needs an athletic partner. It will be interesting to see who comes in, Hurst signings are typically a few people he's worked with previously mixed in with some surprises.

If Coke doesn't sign, I wonder if Abu Ogogo would be available who he has worked with before?

I'm sure my 91 year old Dad would pull on his 1950's boots again if the call went out. I'm pretty sure he would still be more mobile than several of our squad last season

Many of the squad you may refer to were very mobile, particularly on payday, and won the race to the cash machine!

The problem with signing Pond is one of pace . We have Pearson and Waterfall, neither who are renowned for pace . All posters have said after signing Sean we now need someone with pace at the back .

I probably played against your Dad. If he's still those old leather boots with
nailed-on studs he'd scare the shlt out of these modern players.

Bring him on !
