Just wondering if a frozen pitch will be a risk on Saturday?
Temperature well below freezing for next few days .........
Do we cover the pitch? Even if we do it could be rock hard......

It’s over 30 degrees out here.......heat from the blast furnaces!

Covering the pitch would probably have made it worse.  Leaving the snow on the pitch until the last minute is always best as it insulates the ground from any frost.

In Clee any remaining snow has packed into ice in most places, although areas that have had sunshine (which we've got plenty of today) are clear, ground is heavy but not frozen solid.  But it would be the parts of the ground where we don't get any sunshine, mainly the bit in of the Upper Smiths, that I think will be the big danger.

There's odd patches where the snow hasn't packed to ice yet and hopefully this is the situation at BP.

Met Office says temps aren't going to get above 0 until midday tomorrow.  I'd definitely say it's doubtful.

if its off it might be a good thing.

It will give the new lads another week to get to know each other and another weeks practice together.

Its going to be pretty windy so i think that will help.
Probably be less of a mudbath if it a bit frozen.

Correct me if I’m wrong but it must be years since we had a home game off for a frozen pitch, anyone know?

On that info alone I highly doubt it’ll be off given the forecast

Dunno about the rest of you, but I'd quite like to not waste two hours and £10 of my day tomorrow.

We had a game v York that was called off for a frozen pitch.  A few years ago, around Xmas.

No surprise at the time I remember. We had had a few days of sub-zero temperatures.

We've had some of the coldest Feb nights on record, so it's not a normal situation. My garden is hard as rock, about half a mile from BP.

Got to Ashton Gate to watch Town play. We pulled up at two, just in time to see the ref come out to tell s the game was off.

I remember that

I went by train..... it was hammering down when I got there so bought myself a cheap cagoule to try and keep me dry through the afternoon

Found my way from Temple Meads station to the bus station to get to the ground only to find out they'd just called it off

What made it worse was on the train out of Bristol all the local games were taking place ( as the line passed the South West's equivalent of Hackney Marshes )

Probably because you levelled out your bump and furloughed your groundstaff in the summer.

Yes it was Tim. Lincolnshire was the coldest place in the country with minus 18c at Holbeach. It was even minus 15c out here I think. I still travelled over in vain hope! We had been on a tremendous run of form prior to that so it was disappointing.

What a memory. 1980-81. We came in a car from Colchester where I was a student. No M25 then so it wasn't the greatest journey. Like you, we could see the local games going ahead which was annoying to say the least. That season I travelled to the Sheffield Wednesday game, again from Colchester, only for it to be called off as I was on the bus going up to Hillsborough. I couldn't make the rearranged fixture which we won.

I remember going to Huddlesfield when we got there heard it was off.

So decided to go to Sheffield Wed but found that was off as well.

Ended up at Rotherham who were playing Stoke and the great Stanley Mathews.

It was jammed packed we could hardly move.

Big sigh went out when it said Mathews was not playing.

Well he was nearly 50 heavy pitch and still raining .

Half time half the crowd had gone home they had only come to watch Mathews.

So plenty of room to move in the 2nd half.☺

I remember the first West Ham game in the cup in '96 when the country was snowbound.

We were all told that the game would be on so set off for the match. As the A46 at Caborne Hill was blocked we had to go A180, A15.

It was snowing hard all the way and we got just past Caenby Corner (so not too far thankfully) when we got the news that the game was off so had to turn back and battle back through very strong snow fall.
