Reports suggest Doncaster amongst others are tabling a six-figure bid for Cardwell from Chorley.

He was complete rubbish here, wasn't he, let's be honest.

It makes you wonder if the club was so toxic, so negative, so backwards thinking, and penny-pinching and about 30 years behind the times that players will simply not reach anywhere near their potential whilst here.

We are obviously going to have to turn back all the negatives and start realising our potential as a good place to work, and a good club to be at, and the quicker the takeover is announced the better.

He was always a hard working target man, and had some success in holding up the ball played forward.

His downfall was that he just couldn’t score, which is a problem for a striker

I was one of the few that actually rated Cardwell.

He was unlucky with injuries but I always thought he offered us something and with a solid run in the team I always thought he could of been a very good front man.
Limbrick rated him highly from what I understand.

He has only scored 1 goal this season for Chorley in the League, which makes it 3 league goals for 6 different clubs in 6 years. For a striker that is a woeful return. I'm not sure who would want to part with a six figure sum in order to bring in a forward with such a poor record in front of goal. Cardwell frustrated me, he always seemed to be missing something other than the obvious. He was a hard worker and he could at times bring other players into the game but too many off games than on. One of those players who you always think he is going to come good but after 3 years you are kind of wondering why he is still here.

There seems to be more to his play at Chorley, and perhaps he has found his level in the National League North, but would be bizarre to see him jump to League One when he couldn't cut the mustard in League Two.

He was nowhere near good enough whilst here, glad he's doing well for himself but I'd also be amazed if he was anywhere close to league 1 standard.

Not complete rubbish. Niggling injuries, lack of aggression, poorly coached, underused as a sub but a willing and reliable squad player. Far too nice for a CF but has learned to put himself about in non league. Always thought he would develop with regular games but he suffered as a result of stupid contracts given to Hanson and Green.

It's funny how young players can improve over time, who'd have thought thats how things worked.
Then we look at our current crop of youngsters and say they're not good enough.
We do seem to expect our youngsters to be the finished article from the get go, so maybe , just maybe we need to allow players time to develop before we decide they'll never make it.
Kayden Jackson wasn't great here but that season with us helped him develop in to a goalscorer the following season.

Struggled to establish himself in what was usually pretty drab sides that we fielded.

He worked hard and had a bit of pace too, it would be good to think he’s earned another shot in the EFL after dropping down a couple of levels.

I always liked him and thought there was enough raw material to work with to make him a good target man. Doesn't score a lot but could improve in that department. Besides there is more to forward play than just scoring goals.

Think there is definitely something in the notion that players just don't seem to flourish at this club, or at least they didn't in the past. Hope that is going to change in the future.

More times than not we do seem to be that club that can't get the best out of our young players who then go on to flourish, or we seem to be the club where decent players end up stuttering with us and end up dropping like a stone into Non League.

I have been impressed with him at Chorley and a couple of games I saw him play for town.

BUT

No end product so he would need a Podge at his best along side to take the weight off him not scoring.

always said Cardwell needed a skin head , a broken nose and missing dentures and he would improve his game by looking like a nasty intimidating striker and not someopne from a boyband.

I agree with you, I thought he was a handful and for sure needed to score a couple but I would definitely not have let him go. I actually would not have let Rose go as well as he is very much more threatening than what we have now . I despise Hollowhead For his decision-making, idiotic approach and lies utm

Irrespective of where the rumours come from, the fact is that his name is out there, being mentioned as a possible transfer target, which is more than you can say about our sorry lot. At the time we let him go, signing for Chorley with due respect to them, seemed about right.

I brought it up to highlight the fact that players who perform abysmally for us, seem to spring to life once they have left and wondered if the club is so toxic it is permeating everything including stopping players performing to their potential.

Appreciate he wasn't signed in the summer of 2017 to be a regular starter, and working under three different managers (four if you include Limbrick) certainly didn't help, but he scored just one league goal in his three years with us.

I, like many other fans, didn't think he was a terrible footballer, but you then consider Ira Jackson Jr has already outscored him for league goals in what is possibly the worst Town team we've ever had.

Maybe at Ross County, or Doncaster, he'll fit their team's style better. But Chorley are two leagues below us, and if he's not knocking them in for fun at that level then I doubt he'll score at a higher level.

I think we can rule out the six figure bit if he's off to Ross County.

Stretching it a bit. He plays for a mid table Conference North team and is a centre forward who isn't in the top 20 goalscorers for that division. To put it in perspective the much maligned LJL is second top scorer in that league and fourth is Akwasi Asante.

I'll remember him fondly for the penalty he "won" for us in the 1-0 win at Swindon in 2017-18 (at 1m 05s):

https://youtu.be/yik0XRY5eyw?t=65

Never a foul and was outside the box even if it was, but ultimately an instrumental result in keeping us up that season.
