Just wondering who people think should be the Captain of GTFC.  IF Macca is still playing for us, then my opinion is the Captaincy should be taken from him, and a new Captain be selected.  I don't know if we have any real leaders in our squad, but maybe a new signing may show Leadership values, or does anyone think we have a Leader in our present squad?

Not really that important to be honest. It’s a ceremonial role. Successful teams have captains and leaders all over the pitch.

I’ve always felt the best captain’s are centre backs or defensive minded central midfielders.

A captain needs to be able influence all over the pitch, including the referee. I really can’t see how a goalkeeper, or to a lesser extent a striker, can do that.

A good captain should be respected by the other players. His abilities as a player should be "reliable" and he needs to be very verbal - shouting instructions consecutively on the pitch.
He should be someone that motivates players when they are down, but also someone that should instill a little bit of fear in players not doing their jobs properly.
Now - who fits that description?

I would've hoped Rose would've been that player but he's not played well enough - its got to be Morais for me.

Try telling players like Stephen Gerrard or others of his ilk or even our own Dis that his role was only ceremonial.  I've never once thought Macca was the right choice as captain even when he was at his best.  Like others I think central defence or midfield is where a captain is best placed, but hey, that's just my opinion for what it's worth.

Of the present incumbents, there is only one player with any leadership values, and that is Filipe Morais. He has lots of experience on the field, tries to lead by example anyway (which is difficult with the other dross we currently have), and has the where-for-all to tell others how and what to do through his own Football Academy that he runs.

Its a no-brainer (again like most of the other dross we currently have)

Despite his run of poor form Macca really cares and that's evident.

Do I think a keeper captain is the right thing? Probably not but if the 10 numpties in front of him would man up and take some responsibility then maybe it would not be that much of a problem.

At the moment I'm more concerned about when the next point is going to be won and would suggest that's higher on Hurst's list too.

Apart from Hendrie In reality is there another credible candidate? Changing a captain now would not serve any value.

I don't think he has played a full game yet due to his lack of fitness. If you are going to change the captain let's have someone who can at least last 90 minutes.

I didn’t say that. Read my post properly (which incidentally more people ticked than your initial post). I said that the wearing of  the armband is ceremonial. Having leaders in the team is vital, but you don’t need to wear an armband to be a leader.

The problem would be the players being able to hear his instructions as they struggle to keep up with him.

Hmm, where does it mention the armband on here???  And I really lol when you mentioned ticks, lol.  I have absolutely no interest in green ticks or red ticks, that's for kiddies, and I have no idea how many I have, never looked at them.
