Reports today suggest Blackburn are chasing Crewe's Harry Pickering who will cost arounf £750k. Stoke are close to getting Alfie Doughty from Charlton for around the same figure.

In the summer, Sheffield United paid Liverpool £20 million for Ryan Brewster who hadn't scored a senior goal. Arsenal are not even considering offers (reported to be £25 million) from West Ham for Eddie Nketia (6 goals this season).

So, the question is, do we hang onto our young guns, or take any money while we can?

Apart from Pollock who got potential but been gash for the last couple of games I’m not sure we could ask more than a nominal fee for anyone else in the current market.

Brewster scored 11 in 22 in the Championship last season, just to be pedantic.

Some of them are indeed young, but calling them players is stretching it a bit.

Pretty sure that under the EPPP rules any of our youngsters are pretty much available for peanuts and if the player decides they want to go, we're left with the paltry amount with the real 'benefit' coming from any future appearances for their new club.

Just checked and basically if someone like Boyd was to go - presuming he was with the club since he was 9...

£3,000 a year for each year with the club in the age bracket of 9-11
£12,500 a year for each year with the club in the age bracket of 12-16

So £50-60k.

If he went to a Premier League club and then made 50 appearances, we would get a further £750,000, but that fee drops to £125,000 if it's a Championship side.

My understanding is the likes of Pollock and Idehen, both of whom signed for our youth team after the age of 16, would have come under those rules.

If we're talking about those, specifically Pollock, I honestly can't imagine any scout this season has been impressed with him enough to merit a move.  He's very young and will have ups and downs, but he's no way near the form he displayed even two years ago.  Ideally he would benefit from a rest from the first team.
