Odd considering there appears to be no evidence quoted so far that COVID cases on the back of elite sports put the NHS under pressure

What would be the point? Unless you’re going to lock players and their immediate families away for a few weeks it’s not going to work.

Footballers are no different to anyone else in that they still need to get food, petrol and have partners who work. An industry-specific lockdown, so long as its employees need to remain living in the real world, is absolute folly.

Either completing the season is viable, or it’s not. Personally I think they’ll plough on with zero consideration for the integrity of the game, but time will tell.

Would having a month off help us? I presume we wouldn’t be allowed to train so it wouldn’t really help, would it?

Can't see the point of a break. Play on or scrap it completely. Will the situation be any different in 3 or 4 weeks?

A lot of players and staff have proved positive so how  many more have they infected ?

So I can see why they are looking at it,just hope they end the season null and void and we live another day.

I suspect it would be symbolic as much as anything. But even stopping a few thousand people travelling each week might make a difference in the spread.

Look at it this way. A bunch of fit, healthy, well-off young men are potential superspreaders. When they get somewhere are they going to keep themselves to themselves? Something’s going to slip out, so to speak.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,

I think the main argument is to do with St John’s Ambulance and the possibility of utilising their capabilities for the NHS and/or vaccination programme.

A precedent has been set as the BBBC have stopped all boxing until at least 1st February to free up medical staff and to prevent injuries requiring treatment.

Just get on with it.

Theres some on here that obviously like to sit at home with no entertainment at all.
Lets shut down society and dont let anyone earn a living ffs. honestly the only people saying this are the doley bums sat on their bums while some of us have to work to keep them.
I work around 600 people every week and we had 7 cases since March so shows it can be done effectively, footballers are full time pros so if they cant take extra precautions to stop recieving and spreading then they need their lifestyles looking at.

I work as a transport planner, and have 20+ drivers going all over the country every day.
Not had 1 case

A lot of it is down to what people do when not working... i.e breaking the rules in place.

If people follow the rules, then everyone would be safe at work etc, such as footballers

Whatever the statistics, all footballers are lumped together and held up as a sub-species and used as an examples of what is right or wrong.
I don’t care if the Premier Theatre continues or not but can see for some it’s a link to their view of normality.
But I do think Sean Dyche’s suggestion displays great common sense and for that reason will probably not gain credence.
He suggested all Premier Theatre players be given the vaccine.  Then all the money saved from the resultant non-testing be donated to help rolling out the vaccine elsewhere.

I don’t know the figures but I’ve seen £150 per test x 3 per week = £450 for each player
                                                           £450 per squad member x 25 = £11250 per week per team
                                                           £11250 per team per week x 20 = £225000 total per week
Too me, this appears far to sensible.

If we have a so called break in the season, that leaves us in a perilous position! Though if the season is curtailed, I doubt we could be relegated! But we are where we are through absolute mismanagement by the current board and the runaway!

In the long term, the season being curtailed could be a blessing for the future!

Isn’t the delay in vaccinating the general public a combination of logistics, staffing, supplies of the vaccines and supplies of the vials etc?

Vaccinating Benjamin Mendy so he can order some more ‘big bum Latinas’ isn’t going to solve those problems

Roughly 1 in 30 which is higher than the nationwide average! I'd say its still a lot.

Talk now of an announcement later that could go as far as scrapping support bubbles and limiting leaving the house to once a week (how the hell you enforce that I don't know!).

League 1 & League 2 in Scotland isn’t anywhere near the same level as the English leagues of the same name.

Here are the average attendances for Scottish League 1 over the past seasons...

2017/18 - 831
2018/19 - 753
2019/20 - 1,148

To put that into context, the National League average attendance last season was 2,174.

From a selfish perspective, if it is to free up ambulances for NHS and vaccine roll out then we can still carry on training. Would mean Hursty could drill some shape into the lads and, more importantly, sign some players before all those massive six pointers currently scheduled in the next 2.5 weeks.

I doubt we'll be so lucky.

It didn't half make me chuckle when it was first announced. My immediate thought was "in this bizarre new Covid world, Kyle Bennett and Matt Green are classed as 'elite' sportsmen"!
