The Doc has died, aged 92. Great player. Great manager, tactician, team builder ....... one self confessed fault, impatience.

The first time I saw him at BP was with his Chelsea team in 1962 as they hammered us 3-0 and could have had 10. Tambling was unplayable. Bridges was a tremendous striker. Doc trusted those kids and they gave him promotion. The last time I saw him was in the 80s with QPR. They were promoted and we needed a point to stay up which we got. I stood in the players’ tunnel as he came out and there was an aura about him that just parted the people like the Red Sea.

A good innings Doc. RIP.

Good innings indeed. Ex-footballers of that generation don’t normally make old bones.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,

Doc is quoted from a year or two back that if he’d known he would live so long he’d have taken better care of himself!

He also said he was the only manager ever to be sacked for falling in love. (ManU)

I’d forgotten that story. Wasn’t it the physio’s wife?

Yes, left his family for her. Eventually married.

If it was our physio's wife, he wouldn't have made it to 92!

My abiding memory of Tommy Docherty was when he was manager of Wolves and we'd just hammered them 5-1. Being interviewed on The Big Match shown on TV the day after he described Town, in his broad Scottish accent as "Very, Very Ordinary"

I wish that we had a Very, Very Ordinary team now.

RIP.

He also said “let’s see where both teams are come the end of the season.”  Wolves got relegated.

Remember that match. Got in a few minutes late so missed the first goal (Ford?)

He was later quoted as saying “I went to see my doctor he told be to get a job that didn’t involve football so I took the Wolves job”.

Great character and as a manager people probably remember him for the gags and his off the field “pursuits” at Man U but clearly he was a really good managed and coach.

RIP Tommy.

I think it was Wilko who scored the first. Fordy got the 5th as I remember John Helm saying how much he deserved to score

The Wolves match was one of the best games we had on tv.

Great team with plenty of local talent on show.

I seem to remember with Man Utd he was all about the attack. If they score 3 we will score 4 . Loved watching that team.

I think it was. That was the one with Gordy putting him under pressure.

David Barnes was the guy who scored the own goal. Lobbed Tim Flowers from outside the area under pressure from Fordy.
