I see Stevenage have signed three players. Looks like they paid a fee for two of them.
Worrying

Stevens has scored 6 in 39 for FGR, imagine if we had signed him...
Lines is 35 and only played 4 times for Northampton this season...
Norris is a decent signing on paper

I believe it was Holloway who wanted the Covid clause in the contracts and he also insisted that all players must pass his own fitness test!

Pretty sure I could pass Ollies fitness test and I get knackered carrying up some shopping bags up three flights of stairs.

Yes I’m in IT 😂

Would be pretty surprised with the incomings at  Newport if Hurst doesn't explore that avenue.
Knows the player, and what he needs around him. Podge would probably be more likely to consider coming back now with the incomings, his age and the prospect of new owners - not to mention working with Hurst again.
Yes, he's not a player that runs through defences or holds the ball up - he wont create goals out of thin air.
BUT his  positional play and finishing are something we haven't had since, and not overly common.
He had that knack of being in the right place at the right time, always ready to pounce.
Give him service, he will score. Head and shoulders above any strikers we have now or really have had since.

To be honest, Wes Thomas is probably the best we've had since (excluding Vernham who was more of a wide player.

Almond is an interesting one, hasnt scored as prolifically at league level as he did with us in the conference.

That aside, if we are to get a striker to get say 6-8 league goals between now and end of season, I think he would get them, anyone expecting anymore, or for a return similar to his last season with us, is quite frankly living in cloud cuckoo land.

Amond is (including sub appearances) 1 in every 3.5 at Newport, about the same when he was at Hartlepool (a side relegated).

Thomas was about the same ratio when here.

Taking Bogle's hot streak out the equation, last striker to hit anywhere near that ratio (excluding any very short loan spells)?

Michael Reddy - 26 in 70.

Before that Micky Boulding.  11 in 35 and 15 in 38.

1 in 3 for the remaining games would give us 8 goals.  We've scored 19 as a team in the first 22 games of the season.

Not one for going back for old players.  But if we get someone like Amond who can bag 1 in 3 AND bring others into play, that will be a massive improvement.

When you put it like that it's a bit scary - looking at previous goals-for totals at the bottom end of League 2 (highest recent is Hartlepool relegated with 54) we probably need a minimum of 30 goals from 24 games, where are they going to come from?
