Seeing as no one else seems to want to do it, team sheets been out for a while:

McKeown, Hendrie, Hewitt, Pollock, Preston, Spokes, Clifton, Morais, Bennett, Jackson Jr, Gibson.

Subs: Russell, Khouri, Tilley, Starbuck, Edwards, Green, Sisay.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

This will be mail biting, Spokes has to show what he's got and Bennett nerds to show some heart today.

Worried that spokes is in there personally. No Morton or Taylor in the squad when spokes is in the 11 - a sign they might be on their way back to their own club's? Unless they're injured

Would anyone here have had Spokes in their 11? I just have everything crossed, hope seems to be all we have until January comes around.

Spokes is a strange one, that come conpletely out of nowhere.

At least Taylor isn't in the squad.

I'm not a fan of Green but expecting him to start today so interesting hes on the bench.

Wonder if with big Sam going in at WBA he's recalled all the loan signings, thus Windsor's reason for going back.

More like Ollie had a word with Sam and told him he should be playing him in the premier .

Wasn’t it Taunton, or some other very lower league club? That team doesn’t fill me with confidence.

Not overly confident today. This is the weakest we’ve been all season.

Hopefully they can surprise us with a result.  I think it’ll be Jan before we see improvement.

Noticeable that no one has commented on anything going on in the game yet. Not much to talk about so far. It's a bit depressing to be honest. Looks like a 0-1 to me. Would love to be wrong!

Clifton giving stupid fouls away yet again. The lad is a clown

edit: and they'd have scored from it if their player didn't have a 50p for a head

Hope it stays scrappy and ugly. Town need to keep playing percentages and grind this out.

Dare I say this....
This is my 5th game I've watched this season and its the worst we've played yet we're winning 1-0. Hoofing everything! But as they say a wins a win. But I genuinely have enjoyed watching us play it in the floor so I hope once we are more settled we can find a happy medium.

Makes a change us scoring first, come on Town.

Hopefully that's the difference we need

Now keep Ollie out of the dressing room, we always seem to come out worse second-half.

we certainly look much more comfortable and less weak & vulnerable playing 4-4-2 and just booting it forward for jackson and gibson to chase
i'd be thinking about getting tilley or edwards in place of bennett
ps think spokes is doing ok, certainly can't miss him those blue boots; very brave!

Not a bad half from Town. Change in style but a really big effort and we look well organised.

Our two central midfielders have pressed hard and destroyed everything Scunny have tried to do.

Far from amazing, but I'll take that at half time. How did Jackson not even get a sniff off the bench for so long? He's no world beater, but he's won a fair amount in the air and looks tricky. I'm yet to see anything from Gibson that inspires any confidence, though. I don't like getting on players backs, but my God Bennett drives me up the wall. Does the same shitty run into the middle of the pitch and loses the ball every time - hopefully we'll see Edwards at some point, he could do some damage against these.

Did any 1 see that foul throw from scunny - the most blatant I can remember seeing.

Town looking vastly more secure at the  back now we aren't fannying about with it every time. Ollie has learnt at long last!

Morals looking good. Spokes anonymous which is a big step up from him compared to previous games, I was expecting him to be rather conspicuous.

Goal was thanks to pollocks desire there, wanted it more than the scunny player.

Edwards, always trying to do too much. In miles of space to knock a cross in, tries to take too many touches and then gives it away. It's no good beating a man if 9/10 times you do nothing with it afterwards.

On the replay that looked like a red to me.

Towns lack of quality serving well to break up the game.

Red card all day long.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Yellow in normal play. VAR / replay red. But the ref doesn't get that opportunity at this level.

We need to start getting more streetwise, Lincoln would have surrounded the ref there.

Defo red card.  He;s looking at Edwards,  He's stopped then drives into him once he knows he's been done like a kipper.

Has this ref actually made a single correct decision.

Hate these dirty felicitations. Defo red that.

He needs to get Spokes off he’s not completed a pass in this half.

If anyone thinks that was a yellow in live play, they need to get their prescription looked at. You could tell by Clark's reaction that he knew what he'd done and was expecting a red.

Hasn't developed at all as a player. He's always had a good 'engine' but his technical ability hasn't improved and his range of passing and accuracy with them is very poor for a midfielder. Too clumsy to be a proper defensive midfielder and lacks the vision and ability to play in a more advanced role.

What is Hendrie doing? Playing percentages my bottom. There's nothing more aggravating than watching your teammates give away soft free kicks when you're protecting a 1 goal lead. We do it with wild abandon.

Maybe it's just me, but this might be the poorest quality football league game I've seen for many years. The only thing that could make it more depressing is a Scunthorpe equalizer!

Massive 3 points for us.

Now where's Lincs Iron man because Scunny were shockingly bad?

Yeeeeeeeeeees Fantastic result and great to win the local derby , having the bragging rights is brilliant but it only gets us 3 points Local derbies should be worth 6

Personally I'd rather have beaten Mansfield and Southend in the last two games

If anyone doubts these players just look at their reaction at the final whistle! They are playing for each other no matter how scrappy it is. That was the biggest 45 minutes of the season and they just about scraped through together as a team

To be honest, a poor game with two poor sides

However, 2 performances stood out for me, Hewitt and Pollock, up front we were sadly lacking also in midfield I thought Spokes didn't do two badly because he has hardly played

Three great points though and for that Scunthorpe muppet who keeps coming on here, my God you were really crap.

After this week a result is the only thing that matters. Could pick holes in the quality but with Waterfall, Hanson, Scannel, Rose and Wright missing makes it even better.
Pollock brilliant but I'm going to give it to Hewitt who was very good in a unfamiliar role. Special mention to Spokes who for large parts did very well.

Finally changed things to suit the players on the pitch. 4-4-2, no playing out from the back, balls into the channels, set-piece goal. Very boring percentage stuff, but we win 1-0! Halleluiah!

Effort was there but low on quality from both sides.

Thought Morais looked the best for Grimsby. Had ability and composure on the ball.

I think we have to give Town more credit for never giving Scunny a yard. Pollock MOM and looks better with a more mobile partner. Hewitt had a good game and enabled us to defend higher. Midfield pair battled well and I thought Spokes had a decent 90 minutes especially being short of game time. If we tried to out football Scunny we'd have lost. IH got the tactics and team selection right. Not a classic, but you couldn't take your eyes off it for a second..

Thankful for the win. Very poor game. I don’t usually single players out for criticism but Clifton should not be in the team. You can work hard all you like but this lad is not very good at all.

Not the "prettiest" game you will ever watch, but it's three points which is all that matters and I'm sure it'll give the players a bit of confidence. Thought Spokes best game in a Town shirt.

The playing out from the back will come slowly after getting to grips with playing basic football first, you have to pick the right moments to play pretty football and when to just lump it forward. Pollock looks so composed when we play basic football IMO

Thank fook for that. Never has a win been so needed. Rare clean sheet but my god, why does a win for us have to be so turgid, desperate and nerve wracking?

Vital win.

Great to see Clifton back where he should be playing. CM.

I thought Spokes showed glimpses of what I'm assuming he was signed to do. But the CB partnership really impressed me bearing in mind it was makeshift.

All-in-all a great finish to the week. I think we all needed this.

Thankful for the win. Very poor game. I don’t usually single players out for criticism but Clifton should not be in the team. You can work hard all you like but this lad is not very good at all.

He played well, very combative. Our midfield was better than theirs for that reason. There's a lot more to the game than just with the ball..

I may be biased because I'm not Waterfall's biggest fan, but we looked much more secure at the back today with Hewitt in there (admittedly against a limited team).

I'm not his biggest fan either.. For me, it's either Pollock or Waterfall as they're so similar, and Mattie gets my vote. I'd keep Hewitt in there myself. Better balance and more on the front foot..

Agree 100% - brings added mobility. Obviously made the mistake late on, but if that was Waterfall or Pollock, they wouldn't have got there for the recovery tackle - and apart from that, he was faultless.

Agree - Spokes got the weighting wrong on various passes but I could see a touch and potential that someone like Clifton doesn't have.

That said, Clifton's energy essential today, especially when we have so few options but I don't think he's the long term answer.

A few more scrappy 1-0 wins will do nicely.

Just had a look at the Iron Bru match thread, all two pages of it.

One comment was 'typical Holloway destructive football of the worst kind'. Another said they had gone down to our level.

My take is that we were poor, but they were worse. We scored, they didn't create a thing. Not much else to say really.

That isn’t bad news at all. I do not like Lincoln, but all power to them. They’re showing us the way. If (and that’s a big if) we get the right leadership and investment, we can do what they have done with f#cking bells on.

I’m sorry but u watched a different match to me. Clifton  covered every blade of grass and had the engine to still be getting up and down the pitch for 90 minutes. First half in particular he was our best player by far. They got nothing thru central midfield all game. I get frustrated with Clifton over misplaced passes as we all do but today he was vitally important to our win.

Awful from a footballing POV but I really enjoyed it! Proper battling performance showing the manager and the players care - great reaction at the goal and at the end.

Agree about Hewitt, more mobile and athletic than Waterfall, and also reads the game better imho. Would be happy to see him there again, although the quality of today’s oppo is an obvious caveat!

Spokes surprised me based on his previous performances and he was much more forward thinking than Taylor, moving the ball more quickly too. He could come good.

Up front we still need someone with real experience but I think Jackson and Gibson did okay. It’s a huge step up for both of them and they’re having to perform in a team that isn’t offering them much in the way of chances.

More than happy to see the same type of performance in the next game if it leads to picking up points.

No argument from me there. It was what won us the game, as we only needed 1 goal. They created nothing because we didn't let them.

That was a proper excrement game but I loved it.

Great commitment and effort from every player.

Pollock MOM.

didn’t really rate hewitt last season. Becoming a very important player this year in a number of roles. Thought hendrie was as good as ever as well.

Think a Scunthorpe fan would have given us more fouls than that ref did

can only echo the sentiments

poor, poor game but we worked harder and had slightly more attacking threat.
hewitt is having an excellent season and you wouldn't believe he was make shift centre half.
pollock was immense. best i've seen him in ages. looked so much happier playing the basic 'punt it' game and with the mobile hewitt alongside him
clifton and spokes did really well in midfield, worked very hard and were good 'destructively'. offensively they weren't great, especially Clifton (giving the ball and fouls away far too often) I was impressed with Spokes, some nice skills and you can see why he was bought.we can certainly send taylor and morton back on the basis of that performance.
morais was class again and bennett, again, was a waste of a place. He's a show pony which is the last thing we need at present.
although gibson wasnt great, he has improved, whilst jackson looks like he should've been playing since September

finally, can we please ,please stop giving away some many stupid free kicks. we will suffer in games against better opposition if this isn't cut out

Just goes to show we need to give some of these young lads more time. It’s one hell of a jump in levels for Luke Spokes.

I really like what you’ve said there - let’s hope Jackson and Gibson are a front two from now on. As for Hewitt, when he gave that first penalty away against Salford I just though he was a disaster, but in many ways it’s players like him who, when they perform, are irreplaceable. He can play anywhere.

Satisfying result. Not great quality. Thought Scunny were slightly better with their triangles. Both sides had players trying to be a bit too clever at times. Cut out the unnecessary tekkers boys.

Not bothered about the quality of the game, only how many points we get. We need some clean sheets given we have the second worst goal difference in the division. Get things straight at the back and build on it.

Clean sheet for Macca, then again in the 2nd half he could have gone back and sat on the bench as I thought our back 4 where excellent and the Scunts where poor.

Pollock was my MOM but a mention for Hewitt who’s really impressed me with his versatility since he came back into the side. Also for Hendrie who completely did a job on Eisa from start to finish.

Definite red card for Jordan Clarke BTW, I like it when refs let a bit go but the one today missed some important calls.

I don't think we will win many games with Jackson and Gibson as the front two, neither of them could really hold the ball up and Gibson doesn't appear as good as when he first got a game.

Green didn't do that much either, we need at least another forward bringing in.

I enjoyed the game and thought we did well. We were very good at everything you need to do in a local derby- lots of fight, effort, physicality- these games are never full of good football. But we out thought Scunthorpe who looked very poor. Personally I would take performances like that week in week out at the minute. And to anyone who says these players don't care- just look at the reaction at the end.
Hewitt, Pollock, Hendrie were excellent,  but I think Clifton and Spokes deserve special mention. For 2 young players I thought they bossed the middle, had physical presence and didn't let Scunthorpe settle at all. Based on this, and in my opinion, Rose's inconsistency all season, they would be my first pick in the middle right now. You don't need everyone in the team to be playing intricate passes, you need some that do the dirty work on and off the ball. I really don't understand all this criticism of Clifton, I though he did very well yesterday, and listening to Ollie post match,  so did he.

Sorry for the late input.

I like to wait till the Monday so i don't comment and get carried away after a defeat/win.

We've played better recently during this poor run and come away with nothing, but that's football all over.

Spokes really really impressed me, Big guy, calm on the ball, and all round had a great game, MOM for me.

Enjoy Pollock while we can, because even after a defeat, he still impresses me, the guy is destined for big things, hes only 19!!!

The rest did a solid enough job, none let us down.

The clown who give Edwards whiplash should be punished big time, that was criminal!

Most importantly, we was bang average, but Scunny fans should be worried, because they offered nothing, and look lost without Van Veen

Thats been a big part of the problem , too many players that are inexperianced  and not ready for league football yet. And some that will never be league standard ,  For what ever reason this is what we had to start with,  Looking with a clear head  its hats off to them for taking the chance and stepping in to the couldren . They should never have been put in this  position and must be frightning for some of them . Blundel park is not the best place to be a novice . Football is suposed to be fun to play from what i remember from my playing days . I dont blame the players for trying , its the management and above i blame for putting them in the line of fire. I know they have to harden up if they want to be pro footballers  but sometimes its a step too far and early for some
