35 year old right sided Portuguese player is mentioned in the Telewag as 1 of the3  non contract players being looked at.
Interesting background, all at higher level, and was only released by Crawley 2 months ago.

What is more interesting is that he has run a football academy in Bradford for a number of years, it looks like he has his A license, wants to do coaching/managing when he retires and was caretaker boss at Crawley for 3 months

https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/16685730.filipe-morais-wants-manager---maybe-not-yet/

if it comes off there would appear to be the potential for him to cover several bases on and off the pitch

Maybe coming in because he knows there is a good chance of the managers job being available shortly.

I remember him playing well against us at Oldham. Very tidy with ability to link defence and attack where we have been losing possession. Seem to remember some whipped in crosses.

Hope he's not another crock

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

that was my thought - ticks a lot of boxes. Experienced and seems to have some quality. Got his coaching badges, plus some previous experience, already runs an academy in Bradford, wants to be closer to his family, looking to get into coaching/managment

If we get him in as player coach, then I wonder if some or all of the wage doesn't count towards the salary cap. That'd make sense, although his age is concerning.

Be nice to sign somebody between the age of 23 and 29. We seem to be trying to get the average age right but by blending teenagers and semi-retired 30 somethings.

I don't think the age of a player is as concerning as it once was. They look after themselves much better now and I'm sure his fitness will be analysed daily while he is on trial. They are all tested constantly nowadays and their stats are available immediately.

I do hope we sign some younger athletic players too though, with sufficient experience to boot.

Probably not but there was in the Summer and we didn't let it stop us then. Unfortunately why we seem to be in a situation where we have a squad of pushing 30 players but are so desperate for reinforcements that we can't wait another 3 weeka.

May not be a better player technically but I would guess the plan is to bring in some players who are seasoned professionals to add that experience and game knowledge that’s been lacking. Like any new signings, if he does join, we need to see him play a few times and let him settle but we certainly need to get some better results sooner rather than later.

Same old rubbish about a players age.  There are loads of players 35 plus playing in Leagues above us, Adebayo Akinfenwa - 38, Glenn Murray -37, Matt Bloomfield - 36, Stewart Downing - 36, Paul Gallagher - 36, Chris Brunt - 35, Sol Bamba - 35, Wayne Routledge - 35, Curtis Davis - 35, Richard Wood - 35, Geoff Cameron - 35, Wayne Rooney - 35, no Goalkeepers listed in these players from the EFL.  I could imagine that there are hundreds more playing at 35 and over around the World leagues.  The above players are from the Championship only.

Looks pretty good from a dead ball situation. Looks like a steady head on experienced shoulders. Even if his legs have gone, which I somehow doubt, it doesnt mean he cant boss the midfield.

In an interview he gave last month he said this

“When I speak to friends in the game who haven’t got a club, I tell them to keep motivated and stay fit. You’ve got to train with the belief that the phone could ring at any time.

“If you don’t train with that mindset, you would never be ready.”

To me, that screams that he has kept himself fit, and he may even be able to point Ollie towards some of those 'friends' who are also keeping fit.

Of course not-fit as a fiddle-used to be a fighter pilot in Second World War - good for playing night matches. Wouldn't cost much as I believe he's getting State Pension.  With all our problems just what we need - I'm sure there will be a queue for his services so get in quick

Ah the old YouTube show reel, must be good! Looks like he could deliver some decent balls in to the box though to be fair. Also was that Hanson getting on the end of one of his crosses at Bradford?

"Falls to Arnold... Arnold! That's it! Thats it! He's sealed it! Grimsby Town are back in the football league!!! Just a minute to go and Nathan Arnold makes it 3-1! Look at the scenes behind the goal! Look at the relief! The agony is finally over!!!"

We shouldn’t be offering anyone of that age more than a short term end of season deal. We don’t want to be lumbered with these players in the event that we get relegated.

I like what he says and sounds like a good addition.

Morais spoke exclusively to gtfc.co.uk this afternoon, to discuss his move to the Mariners. "I'm delighted really, I am really excited to work under the manager", said Morais. "He's had an amazing career, I just want to learn from him, you can never stop learning and although I'm 35, I feel I've still got a lot to offer and I feel really good, so I can't wait to get straight into it. It's been really nice to get to know the lads, everyone seems to be good and professional, so I have really enjoyed my first few days.

"It's been really good [to start training], you can tell there is a lot of quality here, we have got a lot of young players but as the manager has said, once you get some experience in there it can definitely help those boys along more and that is what I will try to bring, I love playing for my teams, I am a real team player so if I can come in and help improve my teammates then that is what I want to do.

"I like to work as hard as I can, work harder than the opposition and I like to win my individual battles, I am big on work rate and energy and working hard for the team as a whole first and foremost and help my teammates out. From there, I like to think I can always contribute with a few assists and goals and bring some creativity to the team, but I also like to get back and help defend and muck in! I can play in a number of positions in midfield, I played a bit more centrally for Crawley and Oldham, I was always a winger before that on the right or left, wing-back as well for Bolton so I can play anywhere really in midfield or attack".

We also caught up with the new manager today at Cheapside, who is delighted to secure the services of his new midfielder. "He brings us experience and I love the way he plays, he's two-footed", said Holloway. "I'm delighted that he lives so close to us, he's just what we need at the moment, another senior head, as fit as a flea and he's ready to go. He only came in a couple of days ago and he's been absolutely outstanding. He can play anywhere across the midfield, but he can also play left wing-back, right wing-back, centre mid or even off the striker".

Morais will go straight into manager Ian Holloway's squad tomorrow for the visit of Mansfield Town to Blundell Park. You will be able to catch his first interview with iFollow Mariners later this afternoon.

My Rangers friend always said Moshni was pretty bad. With his credentials shame we never got to see him play for more than 30 mins though.

I’m excited to see Morais and Scannell on the wings if I’m honest, could be quite a handful skill wise - with Max to bring on some pace

I'd rather see him in the middle. We've got lots of attacking wide type players with Scannell, Tilley, Edwards, Windsor and Wright. What we really lack is a ball playing midfielder who makes runs and takes the ball in his stride. I have no idea what his style is, but his pedigree should surely make him a good passer.

All we need now is someone who can stay fit and  get in the box at the right time and put the ball away.

Yes, and each and every one of the players you listed are shadows of the players they once were.

Ibrahimovic is 39 and current top scorer in La Liga with 10 goals from 8 games. Ahead of the 35 year old Ronaldo.

Why do we have this obsession with the age of players? If they can do the job they are brought in for, their age is irrelevant.

Because we dont play in a technical based European top flight league with state of the art cryogenic chambers and full medical suites to help players recover.....we play in a physical league on crap pitches and have a guy in shorts with a bucket and sponge and a decorators table doubling up as a treatment table in a porta cabin.

Age has nothing to do with it.

It's fitness and the ability to overcome injuries that counts.

A young fit lad can be injury prone sadly like Wright.

An experienced player in his mid to late 30's can play every game and avoid injury.

What we need is players of any age that can avoid injury then we can have a settled team at last.

Think that could be said of many players we've had, regardless of age. Not many memorable players from the hundreds (thousands?) that have graced BP over the last 15 years.

I don’t know how it’s possible to compare players like ibrahimovic or ronaldo to L2 players. Completely different levels or fitness and strength.

Maybe the reason many a town fan is concerned when we bring in older players is that it isn’t that long ago that we were doing similar things and e all remember how badly it turned out...

So far, for me, regardless of the Covid excuse, this season is all too familiar...that naturally generates an anxiety among fans.

And all of them still playing in the Championship!  And FYI, 1 last played in late October, 3 last played in late November and 11 last played in December.

Mr Fenton will be quite pleased if he can do more then one job, groundsman, office administration, physio, and as a bonus can play as well.

Wasn’t Fenton the name of the crook in Citizen Smith?

Just looks like a name that could have a decent anagram in it.

It was obviously a warning...

Filipe Morais is an anagram of ‘Mafiosi Peril’, which is apt considering you know who has decided to enter the world of organised crime with Mr Kapikanya
