We have recently acquired someone to do the background work on players. Let's see what he comes up with in Jan. It wasn't that long ago that Lincoln were floundering at the wrong end of the Conference. They went into the covid crisis in rude health, squad wise and financially. Things can and do change quickly in football.
We got hit while just starting to look half decent, and the squad got decimated. We now need to re-group and start again. It hasn't been the best of starts shall we say, but it can be turned around.
Agreed. The snag is that defeat destroys confidence. We need a pick up and we need it quickly. I don’t think talk can do it, we are desperate for that experience Ollie talks about.

What else can Ollie do. He has a squad of 28 ish ( I don’t know exactly) inexpensive and inexperienced players which he has to play obviously they came cheap. People call for a small squad of experienced and quality players. These players will not come to the club with the possibility of a 25% pay cut in their contract. (They don’t need to.) These orders come from the top as always and we can all see it’s killing our club. Can anyone compile a list of all the good decisions the top table has made in the last 18 years for me there’s only one I can think of and that’s recruiting our latest manager. I say stick with Ollie he wants the best players he can attract here but if you put breadcrumbs on the bird table you won’t attract a golden eagle.
The powers that be took a decision that prudence would be the policy. What the basis was for that, I'll never know because the government were never going to allow a raft of Football League clubs to go to the wall nor were going to stop football happening for any longer than was forced. So then, we end up signing cheap players as late as possible with Covid clauses and no pre-season. As a result of yet another 'penny rich, pound thick' decision, we end up with Ian Holloway, probably the best manager we could get, under intense pressure because he hasn't had a level playing field. What a different team we would look with Hess and Vernam, others who we let go or were turned off by the Covid clause. We now face further squad upheaval, another rebuild, and, if it doesn't work out, another managerial casualty. All for what?

If the season had gone ahead as ‘normal’ am sure that many things would be different. Without doubt we would’ve had a lot of extra money from season ticket sales as am sure these would’ve been increased due to the new found optimism that was sweeping around the club. Am also sure that the Calibre of player would’ve been a lot higher instead of taking chances on players.

A gentle reminder that we were the ones that decimated it by planning for no football this season.

Didn't Holloway admit quite recently that he had to sign a lot of players without having seen them?
As NorfolkImp points out, it's all about due diligence. For a club that does its PR on the pitch, doesn't believe a S&C coach wins you 3 points and sees ongoing investment as getting a new portacabin, it's no real surprise that any sense of a scouting network has been dismantled.

Yes, fully aware that we shot ourselves in the foot again. As I've said before, if there is a decision to make, we invariably take the wrong path.
