Green (3), Hill (3) Tees.

Sad to see his death. Poor lad never stood a chance that night!

He was a very different keeper to Peter Shilton. Shanks signed him to replace Tommy Lawrence and Clemence  spent time in the reserves waiting his chance. He was trained to be a sweeper keeper like Lawrence and like Grobellar later on,  whereas Shilts was more conventional. To be honest I always thought Ray was prone to handling mistakes but made up for that by his vision in coming out of the area for the ball.

Condolences to his family. I wonder if he had relatives still in Lincolnshire?

It's going back a bit but when Spurs played Town in the League Cup in the 90s we sat next to relatives of his who still lived in Skeggy so it's quite possible there is a Lincolnshire branch still.

The aim of argument or discussion should not be victory but progress.

Joseph Joubert.

Very sad, top pro, great keeper and from what I understand from people I knew when I worked in Skegness in the early 90s a nice person too.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

RIP Ray.

It’s getting ridiculous the number of greats going this year.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.
