Against ten men  

Just seen his goal and he took it very, very well. Am really pleased for him as despite never quite looking up to it he certainly always put himself about and gave his all. Played an important role in that run in under Jolley where we narrowly stayed up especially when so crudely scythed down at Swindon to win that penalty.

There is certainly some natural ability in there because Reading paid a fee for him when he was younger too. I think he's a confidence player and he seemed unlucky with injuries here. I hoped he would kick on after that run of games when Jolley came in.

He was superb at Palace when he came in and slotted into the middle of a back 8.

I think the point about confidence and injuries sums it up perfectly.

After that spell under Jolley where he was making his first real bow as a professional as a lone striker (supported by JJ Hooper and Harry Clifton - which gives you an idea of more the level of pressure and responsibility on him rather than a reflection on those players abilities in those positions), I think most of us expected him to really kick on.

Could never stay fit and each time he came back he looked a lesser player. I felt that he seemed to be constantly at 80% and never really committed himself to any challenges.  Whereas in that spell under Jolley his main attribute was his work-rate and commitment.  

On paper he's should be a good player.  He's got decent attributes all round, without having an outstanding one.  Shame it didn't work out here but he wouldn't be the first player to drop down into non-league and come back better for it.  On one clip alone you can't judge, but he looks decent in the one above.

There have been a few players over the years who are great players in non-league but don't seem to make the step up.

Clare is a classic example. He was almost a guaranteed goalscorer for any Conference team that signed him. Arnold is another one. He never had the chance to make the step up with us but throughout his career, he never seemed to play much in the league.
