You’ll get red crossed as predicted but even in the cold light of day tomorrow when everyone has calmed down, any other manager would be getting dogs abuse for assembling Thai side, Covid or no Covid...

Don't worry Ollie it's always like this on here when we lose to a team we should thrash.

You need to read the Bath thread when we lost to them, it went global.

Don't agree with the post - Holloway is an experienced manager with loads of respect from other professionals - but I'm getting really tired of making excuses for this teams results - we play some nice football at times but unfortunately that doesn't guarantee results - hopefully Holloway in the next couple of months can turn things back round, because like I said I'm getting tired of making excuses for these results UTM

Too early for the sack but maybe he should stop picking the starting 11 out of a tombola for every match?

Don’t think it was a bad performance, but maybe Ollie has to accept our 4th tier football players can’t play the ball out from the back. We are losing too many stupid goals by losing possession around our box.

At the other end we just need to get sharper with finishing and there will be some of our forwards who won’t make it.

Just another normal season in the life of a Town fan. Beginning to think the manager doesn't exist who can get us out of the doldrums.

What's the point in sacking the manager?

Probably Ollie needs to realise he had division 2 goalkeepers and defenders and not Premiership/Championship players, then just stop the playing out from the back, because at the moment it seems to be costing us a goal every game, and as we struggle to score we cannot afford to be helping the opposition.

I paid my £9.99 but after 30 mins I took my garden rubbish to the tip. Some players not playing with the same passion or urgency. They don't look comfortable with the style of play and are missing a leader on the pitch. Olly screaming from the technical area has no effect.
I still look forward to each game hoping to see some development and new players gelling with last season's.
The framework is wrong, however. Time to simplify our system. Hanson and hoof ball aren't the answer either.
Now being defensive in interview. 'I'll take that performance all day long'..... hmmmm.

You see...I dont agree. I thought for large parts of the game our passing and movement was very good. I thought we were starting to see a way of how Ollie wants us to play. It was the lack of edge in the final third again that cost us again - that and the usual mistakes. We all see it differently though.

It's about time people realised we are going through a transition, completely changing our style, actually trying to play football...I don't think we'll see the benefits until after Xmas, but I'm confident Holloway has a plan and us sticking to it..look at how pep brought a new style to Man City and Klopp to Liverpool, regardless of the quality of players you have at your disposal, you need time and patience for it all to knit together...we have some good players, Bennett, Windsor, Edwards, Williams, Rose, Pollock, Waterfall, Hendrie...we will get there and Boris Johnson,  you're a turd,!!

I’m just fed up with this obsession about trying to find an identity, is that ever going to happen with all these changes?

What Holloway is attempting to do is get every player he has on the pitch, rotating the squad so at some point he can swap players in and out with no detriment to the team on the pitch...that takes time and in doing so you build an identity, he wants us to be a possession based team that play good football....what he cannot account for is individual mistakes and that is costing more rather than our overall play.. yes, we are packing attacking intent and hopefully, with 2 weeks to our next league game, that is what he concentrates on during training.

The eternal problem with town is we are guilty of either playing too much football or not enough and seem incapable of getting the balance right. The change of the goal kick rule is the worst thing that could have happened for most levels of football but for lower league clubs in particular. In reality at best the vast majority of these short goal kicks ultimately end up with someone in the team either having to play a very hurried pass or hoofing it upfield. How many goals do teams score by adopting the short goal kick approach and whilst we all want to see quality football I don’t actually see where this particular tactic supports that mantra.

The other modern tactic of 4-3-3 with 2 wisemen up front is fine if you have Kane, Son and Bale or Salah, Mane and Firmino but for me the front players are too spread out and mean we don’t get enough players in the box. Town have suffered with this since our return to the league and we continue to choose midfield players who are incapable of scoring any goals themselves.

We now have a great opportunity to spend time on the training field getting players properly fit and working on getting more cohesion and understanding into our play but Ollie now needs to identify his best eleven and stick with it barring injuries and suspension.

I thought we played well for large parts but managed it really poorly at the end. After 85 minutes I said to my lad that all we needed to do was avoid stupid mistakes and we'd win even if it took extra time. Still think that was the case.

It's been very up and down but I think a more settled team is starting to emerge. When fit it seems McKeown, Hendrie, Pollock, Waterfall, Preston, Rose and Clifton will probably start. No surprise then that where we look disjointed is the final third. We've been pretty unlucky there with injuries to Hanson, Edwards and Tilley. Agree there are some significant questions around our pre season but any talk of Holloway being under pressure is utter drivel. They are pretty unique circumstances thi season and whilst others seem to be doing better we might not know who's overspent or taking risks with their budgets for a long time to come.

Fair enough if you like to see the ball goes sideways or backwards plus flipping up just about every free kick and corner.

Only one decent forward pass in the second half got us the penalty other than that it was cack.

Poor quality players, poor team selections,  and poor performances nothing else much to say.

You make me laugh....we lose 1 game, albeit to a team we should've beaten but sh!t happens occasionally...yet when we do beat the likes of Cheltenham, Orient, even Barrow that's forgotten about... give it a break for once in your life..this team is not poor, not by a long chalk...Pollock, Waterfall, Hendrie are probably up there with the best in this league, Williams and Rose and Bennett are very good midfielders, add in Windsor showing some excellent movement, Edwards would scare most defences and Preston is a pretty darn good wing back...what we lack, although I'm convinced Gibson will come good, is a fox in the box....so a poor team!?..not on your Nelly!

I don't want to be entertained I want to win matches, that's entertainment enough for me. Why is everbody still making excuses for the manager. He's supposed to be fantastic, our Messiah, a dream appointment. Well he ain't and the sooner he realises it and stops making excuses and bullshitting the better

I worry exactly what legacy he is going to leave GTFC

I’ll give credit for winning games unfortunately we lose more than we win so it makes it pretty hard , we’ll finish bottom half of the table sorry for being realistic but that’s the best we can hope for with this team.  I talk to a first team player regular even he said with this group this season will be a struggle believe me or not I couldn’t give a monkeys we are poor.  Facts are we’ve just lost to the bottom team in the conference who previously have won 1 in 6 to many years of crap have conditioned many on here to accept this sort of result for me it’s nothing short of rubbish

I actually feel sorry for Ian Holloway reading  the opening message in this thread. Let's not forget that the Daggers are only a league below and would have raised their game for this  cup tie.

I've seen 2 league games on the I follow and thought one was OK and the other we played well in.

Keep the faith Ollie most fans are still behind you.

Great post,  completley agree.

It’s clear what he’s doing but in the lower part of league 2 is it achievable? Generally at this level success is achieved by minimising changes.

Just to clarify what I mean by “success” is winning a good few, scoring more than 1 goal every couple of weeks and being competitive.

Of course it's achievable, maybe not this season due to this poxy virus, but stick with it, don't throw in the towel and back the manager...I'm sure the Man Utd board are glad they did back in '89!!..

Good post, I think if we could have a run of half a dozen games with Maxi, Tilley, Edwards and Hanson playing lots of minutes with the spine of Macca, today’s back 4, Rose, Clifton and Bennet I reckon we’d be half decent.

One thing I have noticed is that the oppositions scouting seems to be based upon kicking the likes of Max, Tilley and Edwards which is going to be an issue all season.

I also think that if we player 2 up front with some of the talent we have using the flanks Gibson who desperately needs a partner would flourish.

I never said you didn't, I was making a broad sweeping statement.

That being the case I’d avoid doing it under a quoted post. Some posters can be a bit sensative😉

Offload 4/5 of the players we have just signed? Holloway seems to be obsessed with signing new players, do we really want to encourage him to swap and change to this degree? It may well be that, given time, we have a half decent combination of players within the squad we have? Because there are so many permutations, we'll probably never find it, as players need to form partnerships, which in turn means they need to play quite a few games in roughly the same roles and positions. There have been quite a few players over the years that looked poor one year and then good the next, but unless you give people a chance, you'll never know. If you make 4 or 5 changes every game, how do you know which ones made the difference?

Ye and take your 100k with you....oh hang on a mo

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.
