Charles Vernam is an absolute Lord of a footballer. I am so sad to see us fail to activate his extension, which would have been cheap enough, never mind a new deal which he deserved. He willl urine league one, score as many goals as he wants and we will massively regret one of the greatest players since Clive slipping through our fingers.

He is a Lord. I understand John Fenty, despite sitting back is responsible for renewals, hence losing Lord Vernam for nothing when we could have just extended his deal.

I think we picked him from Derby because he was damaged. He's a knee injury away from ending his career at such a young age. I suppose he went for more money maybe one last big payday. I wish him well and hope he recovers from this.

Doesn't sound too bad, according to this: https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/after-cup-double-battle-points-4505521

Charles Vernam may not be out  of action for as long as Burton Albion feared with the knee injury he picked up in last week’s Carabao Cup first round tie against Accrington Stanley.

Vernam was arguably the Brewers’ man of the match against Accrington before having to limp off 67 minutes into his first competitive game for the club.

“Charles took a whack on the inside of his knee,” said manager Jake Buxton. “He’s seen a specialist and the first thoughts were that it would be bad news but we’ve had a second opinion and it’s not as bad as we feared. He’ll not be too long. He’ll miss Saturday but we were looking at a long period of time and now it’s not going to be as long as we expected.”

Vernam, who had created chances for himself and others with his direct running during the game, was visibly upset as he left the field.

“The lad was quite emotional when he came off,” said Buxton.  â€śYou’ve seen in pre-season and in that game, he’s going to be an unbelievable player for the club, a real asset to the team. He has the bit between his teeth. He sees this as a real opportunity and he was very disappointed when he came off because he knew he’d hurt himself – but we’ll see him sooner rather than later.”

His scoring record, suggests not. I never understood all the fuss about Verman, scoring record 10 goals in 62 gmaes for us, so scores one in every 6 games. A little cameo towards the end of the season, other than that, nothing really.
If you mean Clive Mendonca, when did Clive slip through our fingers, spent 5 years here, scoring goals and a bigger club came in for him. Verman name should not be mention in the same breath as Clive Mendonca.
He is no longer a town player, so could not careless what he does for Burton.

He was a different player when He was under Holloway. Definitely above league 2 standard without doubt and finally fulfilling his potential. Big loss but i don't blame him for going. Ifwe had offered him an extension earlier we would have kept him. Seemed risk free not to offer him that extension at the time but ended up costing us either the player or a good fee.

Admittedly he became a good player in his final dozen or so games, but until then he offered little more than 15 minutes of initial excitement before typically becoming anonymous in games. Before his uptick in form I was quite happy for him to depart at the end of his contract, and likely drift into non league. His loan and return to the team surprisingly was the making of him.
