Anyone else concerned about our lack of signings this week, given the I that it's only two weeks until our Carabao Cup match?

I think, regardless of Holloway’s comments, the club have made it very clear that our belt has been very much tightened which I imagine means we’re having to be considerably more cautious and certain that we want the player.

I suspect a loan player or two may be brought in and then some more lads from lower non league.

I don’t buy in to the whole ‘in holloway we trust’ nonsense. It’s his job and he will do it. Aside from the season when all but three players signed back on after the Bristol Rovers game, I never really remember GTFC being super quick in the summer signing players and this year with all this mess happening I don’t think any of us did.

Ollie knows what he is doing, I'm sure, but with the fixture pile up that's about to hit, whichever players he signs will have to have a good level of fitness from the getgo if they are to go straight into the team on a rotation. They won't have weeks available to get their fitness levels up to Ollie's standard.

Come on Ollie, we can't hold our breath much longer.

Incidentally, how many contracted players have we go now?

What would you like Ollie to do.

A.  Bring players in to make the numbers up.

B. Only sign players he thinks will improve the squad.

I prepare B. might take a bit longer but that's the what happens.

I never said he should sign people for the sake of it. I'm just concerned that we've only got one preseason friendly arranged, our midfield in particular is very short of players and it's only only three weeks until the league season starts. I'd say that's a valid concern.

I don't think this close season can be compared to any other. What we have is what we have, if he wants more he will find them. It is much the same at all the clubs whatever the level this year. There are still a hell of a lot of players unemployed who have not been picked up yet.

Another way of looking at it is we have some promising youths who might be ready for some game time.

Starbuck,Pope,Curran and a couple of others maybe and don't forget any loan players that might come.

We will be fine ( famous last words )

Sign players who are ready to go, are used to training more than twice a week. We must get off to a firm start, we don't want to be playing catch up from the start of the season especially if we are intending to bring the young non-league level lads in gradually, can't blood them 10 games in without a win.

At some point a host of players in the league are going to realise they’re going to have to compromise to secure a club. This is the first case I remember in which holding out will benefit us, there are absolutely loads of players without a club.

Somebody mentioned signing a load of Non League players, I’d be surprised if many more came from that route. Filling your squad with Non League players is a perfect recipe for disaster.

It worked for Sir Alan. Two promotions with players signed from non league

Who says we dont have 10-15 trialists working there socks off at cheapside for a contract at cheapside?
Some maybe already established league players that are weighing up offers or the fact the club may not want to announce that they have signed.

Just because we are bored waiting for news doesn't mean there is none.

Drove past Cheapside this morning - far more players there than we've got signed.

I think it is right to be concerned. There was a lot of "In Jolley We Trust" talk this time last year so to simply say "In Ollie We Trust" this year doesn't really mean much to me.

Sounds like we may finally be about to replace Jack Lester, 20 years after he left the club (Christ, 20 years - that makes me feel old).

Think one of the young lads we've signed (either Gibson or Jackson) has been playing and scoring goals from a wide so I imagine that's where he's play for us and if we're going 3 up front I think one more striker makes sense and of course is another with more experience to help out the younger lads.

But he didn't fill the squad with non - league players. To my recollection he signed 3 non-leaguers - Tilson, Alexander and Cockrill. Don't forget that he had spent time managing non-league so he'd know a bit about these 3 players first hand.

Lets not forget we let Vernam, Cardwell, Rose, Cook and Clarke go in the Summer and have signed 3 strikers. 2 of which may play as wingers or to the sides of a front 3. Hansons picked a knock up already which would leave us with Sisay and Green. Think we have space for a goalscoring striker and Robinsons done it at all his clubs at this level and one above. Wouldnt say no to be honest.
We desperately need a midfield general, another creative central player and certainly a left back as we havent one at the club.

Still work to do so squeeky bum time

Ah, ok apologies, i wasn't sure whether Buckley brought him in.  I started going when Buckley was appointed and apart from Town, I knew nothing about the players outside the top division, with the exception of top scorers, who I'd keep an eye out for, like Brett Angell, Jon Taylor, Dion Dublin.

We suggest a clause where if the country went in to lockdown again he wouldn’t get paid or words to that effect...sensible on out part? Possibly. Sensible for him to take a deal that didn’t offer that? Probably.

It’s not so much the signings that are worrying but the lack of pre season game’s could be harmful...

Agree with this. Playing training games is one thing, doesn't replace actual game time. I do fear a slow start to the season. I seem to remember the same issue last year under Jolley when he thought pre season games were meaningless.
