Don't need him surely? Hendrie is one of our best players. Obviously he'd be a decent signing, but there are other areas of the starting XI that need addressing before RB competition. Especially considering Hewitt can play there as well.

Think one of the reasons he was released by Lincoln were his high wages so would be a surprise signing although very highly rated by all Chimp fans I know.

Ardley might be sort of player Ollie needs He has said he wants players for 2/3 roles We know Hendrie can play centre back - he was awesome at Palace in the Cup
More utility players you can sign more it frees up cash for quality strikers

Whilst I don’t think for a minute that this story has legs, I never quite understand why some want players signed in an order of significance. Why does it matter which position is covered first?

I reckon after Ollie said about having contacts abroad, we will get at least 2 overseas players that nobody has heard of before but will be a sensation.
Think Robles but with talent..

No. At Palace we had both RHJ & Hendrie as the centre back partnership. Fox was left back (briefly) and Mitch Rose (with Zaha in his pocket) played right back.

I'd generally agree, but the likelihood is that we're going to be operating on a smaller budget than usual with reduced numbers so we shouldn't be bringing in a premium RB when we already have one good enough to be in any decent side at this level plus adequate backup already when we don't have a first choice LB, have lost our best CM and only have one out and out striker (unless I've forgotten anyone). But like you say, it's probably not true anyway.

Interesting re centre midfield as, much to my surprise, I thought was absolutely excellent in that role in our last match at Scunts. Whether he is capable of churning that level of performance out on a regular basis remains the big question but he showed on that day he has the ability to be more than half decent.

absolutely agree, he was our best player and the best player on the pitch by a country mile but whether he can do on a regular basis like you say we will have to wait and see getting on for nearly 5 months since we've seen our team play

Well, Hewitt is a CM by trade. Admittedly, he didn't look great earlier in the season when played there, but i'm starting to think we shouldn't judge any player on how they performed under Jolley He's decent at RB because he's got a great cross on him...but he played CM at Scunny and provided a great cross for one of the goals in that match. You never know, he might kick on under Holloway. He played CM for Notts county during their playoff season i believe.

Yeah, when Hewitt signed the Notts County fans said he was decent enough at CM but useless at RB.

Hewitt should be alright in the centre of midfield. Decent height which is useful in both boxes and a good range of passing. Can do a job at right back which is definitely useful in a leaner squad.
Holloway raves about our young left back (not sure of their name) so I would expect 1 left back to come in. Can't see Eardley coming here because we have too many options in that position.
He's spoken about players coming here on the way up so wonder if he's scouring the non-league scene?

I very much doubt we shall be making any signings emisar until we know what lies in store for the coming season - & then a realistic budget can be established.

We need to make signings soon, every other club are signing players, it'll come to a week before the season starts and we will have something like 12 players.

But if a second wave comes Football will be delayed Teams will have players sat earning a good wage, with no income It might not end well I would rather have a team in 2 years time playing in League 2, than non-league with Bury AFC

I’d be surprised if we signed more than 1 or 2 players permanently. I’m purely guessing but I think we’re likely to see 3 or 4 players coming in on loan deals till the end of the season. Much less risk financially.
Actually, I think it would be a good idea for the EFL to relax the rules on maximum number of loan players in a match day squad for this coming season. Clubs can then loan players from bigger, more financially stable clubs, save money by paying a small percentage of their wages and not run the risk of having players on full time contracts that they may not be able to afford, whilst making the league competitive.

Clubs will have thought of that surely. I imagine contracts will be worded appropriately. Can't pay players or anyone else without income. As regards restarting the government are downbeat even before the autumn and winter weather arrives so I wonder whether we will actually start at all with fans. When the virus started to recede I was hoping for a relatively normal start but with the Government being cautious I am doubtful. I can't see many clubs surviving another prolonged delay, and they need fans to survive so it is a rather depressing catch 22 situation.

Not too sure I agree with this 100% If too many players are loaned from the ‘big clubs’ wouldn’t this in effect then just be like granting them the b teams that they so desire? Now, am all for a few players being loaned, but I think the current levels are adequate enough.

Supply and demand. Most players won't be able to command the same wages as previously or stay in the same division due to clubs running with smaller squads and promoting more youth players.
Some will retire, some will go part-time but it is a buyers market out there.
I think 5 loans is more than sufficient. If we maximised our loans that would give us a squad of 5, plus the 4 youth graduates so we would only need 3 or 4 permanent signings (assuming our young players aren't loaned out).

Fair points although I don’t think it would be anywhere near a bridge towards B teams, I was more thinking a temporary, cost saving measure that would really help the smaller clubs out until were in a position to have unlimited capacity crowds and maximised income again.

This thing about a buyers market, yes the best players may cost less but will still go the clubs that pay most, So we offer player A (previous Lg 2 contract £1500pw) £600pw & Mansfield offer £700pw they are likely to sign for Mansfield, so although the players may have to accept less, they will still go to the club that offers most even if it is half what their last contract was. We will still be somewhere close to where we were last season in the pecking order of signings perhaps with better players but other teams with more money will still have even better players (we may perhaps be in a slightly better position due to Ollie but in the end money talks) I know I should be more positive but I get a feeling that unless someone puts their hand in their pocket we will still be the poor relations to half the other teams in the league.

One thing in our favour this season is Ollie a few more players could be Persuaded to sign and play for him and us than Jolley could manage.

Not sure if mentioned elsewhere but Eardley has signed for Burton. As if someone would choose them over us 🤔

Pete, whilst I cannot wait to see what IH can do for us in a full season let's not forget he has failed to get Billy Clarke and Charles Vernam to sign.

Some spotty virgin on twitter makes up a rumour, it doesn’t come true, Town fans get drunk off cos it didn’t happen. Jesus the season can’t come soon enough.

Saw some post on one of the Facebook groups bemoaning Ollie’s pulling power after ‘missing out on another one’.

I still don’t really have an opinion either way on Holloway but sometimes the manager is t the only factor in signing/not signing a player...contracts, style of play, team mates, geography, likelihood of first team action and so on all feature. Even the best managers don’t always get the bodies they want.

Shame about the lad with the unpronouncable name from FC Manchester, liked the sound of him and just the sort of lad we want who Holloway could really bring on. Don't know what the attraction is about Scottish football at the moment, Dundee U are after Toto and James Norwood from Ipswich Town

They are back playing in Scotland so it guarantees them a wage. The Scottish response has been a lot better too so people may have more confidence in the Scottish season completing.

Can't blame him for that. Going from crowds of 2000 to 50,000 is quite a thing.

This post is not ageing well with today's news that Ma Sturgeon is thinking of cancelling football now that an Aberdeen player has been tested positive. No doubt the same will happen here if an employee of any club tests positive. It is all so dispiriting unless we change the mindset that we will give the virus some respect but carry on our lives as normal otherwise we may as well cancel everything till we are all vaccinated at some future date.

Thats my view on it LCL. You could be in isolation for 5 years come out and infect someone, because the virus is still in us just doesn't effect some people (they are immune \ carriers). I'm being sensible but also want to get on with my life otherwise whats the point. you are not going to get rid or spikes and small increased cases as there is no vaccine, and dont hold your breath for one as we are still waiting for one for the cold.

No idea if he was actually a target for us, but missing out on an ageing full back is no big loss.
