Welcome to 1972 ! Town were currently fifth in the league five points behind leaders Brentford. Average home attendance from all games was 10809. Matt Tees still led the scoring charts with 17 goals followed by Stuart Brace on 9 and the underrated Mike Hickman on 8. January's matches included a big game against promotion rivals Southend and a home game against old rivals and fellow promotion candidates Lincoln City.
