Just back...from the kitchen

FEEL that AL needs a couple more games to prove if he can hack it. Listened in the kitchen on the radio and we should have been two up early on. Thats how it goes when you're down on the luck, they go upfield and break your heart.  The play sounded so much better...trying to play football the right way. We have time. It doesn't sound really broke. Let's see what Tuesday brings?

The Lincoln lads are the problem , waterfall , green , whitehouse are all shite.

I was absolutely fuming after last Sat & Wed we were a total embarrassment.
Today even though we lost, the first half at least gives me some optimism that we may be able to get back to something like our early season form.
The lads gave it a go today.
Glad to see Harry back in the midfield he gives it everything hes got.
Looking forward to Tuesday's game.

Much better today and tried to play the right way. Green had a shocker, he's a player signed 3 years too late and unsurprisingly in decline. We lack quality in both boxes that can only be put right with a cheque book. We need our best two players Hendrie and Wright back as soon as possible.

I still find it staggering that young Max, with a handful of games under his belt, is seen as the answer to our troubles.

Is Wright one of our best two players? Genuine question, as other than highlights I haven’t seen him play. Has he played a full 90 minutes yet for the first team? I know he has potential but seems he’s becoming the big white hope whilst out injured.

As an aside, I think we need to give AL at least 4 games before judging whether he’s capable of getting more out of the players than Jolley. Bad result today but sounds like a step forward after the low of Wednesday (or more precisely the second half on Wednesday).

Max is special. He has the wow factor AND he loves Grimsby Town. I have been watching Max since a pre-season friendly 4 seasons ago and I could see his potential then. He is very exciting.  We have to be positive and I say now that AL could be the man to take us forward.

When he made his debut at Notts County coming on as a sub at half time he just looked like a proper footballer - a class above. Just the way he held himself and ran at them with intent.
Then when he came on at Chelsea he was the one player that didn’t look out of his depth.
If he can stand up to the physical challenges of the league 2 cloggers he will go on and do well at a higher level.

For me only Hanson and Macca can hold their heads up. The rest were very very ordinary. Green and Hewitt going for the wooden spoon. For the first 15 minutes I thought we were in for a treat, but the wheels came off after such an excellent start. Great support from the 597, and a strange ref who blew his whistle for nothing and then let clear fouls go unpunished.

I watched max as a ten yr old he was beating his defender then in local gy league for discoveries he can still beat a man in the pro game running at defenders with pace, I’m hopeful he really can make a difference

I'm not sure how many are saying he is the answer to our troubles, but it's just nice to see a player who can run at players with pace as he is about our only one.

Glad to see positive reports from others that went. First half we played some good stuff n Hanson looked a threat again. Certainly the players were up for it. Although Northampton controlled the second half we held in there n didn’t buckle.  Good positive subs with Ogbu n Rose on with plenty of time left.  Don’t forget Crewe got beaten by worse in Northampton last home game.

Great turnout albeit didn’t understand the “you,re not fit to wear the shirt chant” second half, albeit from a small minority.

Would love AL to steer us to a win Tues and stake a claim to at least a short term stint. Newport n Northampton away was a v tough start for him. And anyone else that was managing us.

So in the first half we passed the ball better considering we’re not a “passing side” and yeah we managed to get ourselves into some decent opportunities but our complete lack of quality in mid field and what appears to be scant confidence let us down. In the second half we looked a bit clueless in possession. However in reality we could have scored a couple of goals today from playing football.

For their first goal allowing a free header like that was poor. For the 2nd though I got slaughtered on another thread for suggesting it I though Hess could have done more to prevent the cross, when the cross came over it looked like a right member up, but what do you expect when you rarely play the same back 4 two games in a row.

If you’re going to play a 3 in midfield you need some quality we have players who’s stats looked good on Jolley’s lap top but I guess you can’t measure and quantity endeavour or flair. Also if you have a target man like Hanson surely playing him close to a partner has to be the way?

Then again apart from Max we have no natural wide players and if our FBs do get in behind their delivery is poor as we witnessed today.

I know it’s in short supply in the 4th tier but we have a side that lacks flair & creativity, let’s just blame Jolley for that. Incidentally today I thought a couple of players hid a bit from the physical stuff but a few did mix it and get their foot in, as much as I love Macca we need an outfield captain.

IMHO Limbrick was 50% of the problem when Jolley was here and I’m not expecting anything from Tuesday.

We need a new manager in this coming week as the players look like they’re mentally confused and any incoming manager will need a good run of time on the training ground  before the Swindon game if we’re going to get anything from that.

It feels like all this needs is someone with a bit of experience to come in and simplify it for the players and get them to do the simple things a bit better. Despite being really disappointed “again” I thought some of the songs today where a bit out of order we’re not “f*****g excrement” as some suggested and we don’t “lose every week” we’re just a set of players who have lost their way and need simple direction. If they get that and we a can bring a bit of width in after Christmas things will improve.

This is all i need to read. It's all i ask if i go watch a game.

Amazed that Hess and Clifton were picked out by the commentators. The bald guy in midfield bossed the game. Whenever he had the ball he looked calm and dictated the play.

Better than Wednesday but still poor. Yes we started quite brightly but they soon got on top of us. Both Newport and Northampton looked well organised with a clear system of play and cohesion. Something we lack and need to develop very soon.

Best bit of play came from Hess when he did a lovely little run down the right and was unlucky not to bury his shot ..that goes in and this read would be reading very different.... only positive I am taking us that limbrick didn't put square pegs in round holes...still not happy that we kept lumping up to Hanson when he was obvious he wasn't winner the headers against 2 6'4" plus defenders....and I have to mention Gibson who I thought had a great game and hardly missed a tackle all match...
And I have to say my numpty of the match goes to Macca, he needs to command his area and be more positive with his punching when under pressure, to run over to the ref and gesticulate they way hi did saying he'd been fouled, trying to cover up for his own failings was just stupid...

The last two matches I saw before today were the nightmare thrashing against Orient at home, and the eleven men behind the ball effort at Cambridge where we created nothing but escaped with a point.

I have to say that we were far better today. Some really slick passing moves, and for the first twenty minutes we looked like the inform side soaring up the table.

But then, after missing several decent chances, we allowed a free header from a needlessly conceded set piece. Just gave them a goal.  We were still in the game at this point but then we handed them another comedy goal on a plate.

It seemed to me that the manger picked as strong a line up as we have available at the moment and we looked more organised as of late, but we are just so wasteful up front, and error prone in midfield and defence.  But at least there were signs that we can string a few passes together and if Northampton are one of the form sides in the division at the moment then we should take comfort from the fact that we put them under great pressure at times, especially in the first half.

So I remain convinced that our squad is good enough to stay up, and probably secure a mid table place. We just need a manger that doesn't try square pegs in round holes and can get the best out of what we have.  

could& should have been two up sitters missed , then they get set play hewitt leaves his man free header 1-0 again have chances to go in 1-1 miss them , they go up score a goal that should be disallowed , personally i think no where near as bad as people making out , we can't score when on top it need's to change, thought davis clifton waterfall all did well

Agree. Not sure the captaincy is  helping him.

Desperately need some natural width. It would appear Wright has turned into Ryan Giggs during his absence! (although he is certainly talented and his direct running offers us something different) The return of him and at least one more wide player are a must for January.

If AL can get a bit of confidence back into this team, and once we grab a goal, I think we'll settle down a bit. I don't expect us to be surging up the league but when you're in a rut like this the best thing you can do (as the pundits always say) is play your best XI and keep at it, week after week.

Let players build up partnerships. I know managers want to rotate and guard against fatigue but footballers want to play football. They're all professional and they should all be able to play 90 mins, week in, week out.

Well said. A couple of new faces in January are a necessity though and something a new manager, whether it is AL or not, would need.

We need to spend money on a proper manger. Limbrick is by all accounts a lovely bloke but so was Neil Woods.

Limbrick has no experience of managing a league club (other than 2 losses out of 2 with us) and was a disaster at Woking. Keep him as the mr nice guy assistant but please for the love of god get a proper manger in ASAP.

At times Jolley changed the back 4 sometimes it was forced on him sometimes he’d tinker though I thought Waterfall and Davis where bang average I wouldn’t change them and the full backs for Tuesday just let it settle.

I don’t know who fishcake63 is but I like his no messing writing style!

I would think that defeat at home to Cheltenham and AL could be toast.

Much better performance today.  We were in command until the goal and should have scored, but there's that little thing called confidence.  When green got the ball in the 6 yard box he looked surprised.  I bet he thought, "how has this happened?".   The first goal was a blow and it was a cheap free kick.  Why pull the opposition player's shirt when he's going nowhere.  The second goal floored us.  Hanson had a couple of good chances as did Green.  Cook's glancing heading was close and if you have a run of luck could have gone in.  A goal would boost confidence  and things could turn around quickly.  You could see sometimes they were a little nervy.  Green's break he ran wide.  A confident player would have cut inside and taken the defender on.

I think this is an excellent  summary. Imho Clifton was our motm and was great to see him return to his best. I suspect there is a story with him n jolley.
Fair play to n'ton their 2 centre halves, especially 5, snuffed out Hansen and we just dont have the players, the pace, the guile, the ability to have a plan b.
Their no 4 bossed the midfield and the ref, whilst up front Oliver was allowed to constantly jump in to our players whilst Hanson was pulled up for anything n everything.  
Going forward the problem is that there are v few winnable games and we could easily be into January without a win, coz despite that excellent 30 mins I dont think their gk made a save and as soon as wed conceded it was game over. We need a new manager and some pacey creative players pretty damn quick,  coz our season is over and in reality we are hoping that there is1 team worse than us
