I do think our team is much improved than last season but I don't think we'll make play offs for a few reasons and one of them is, how often do we fall behind? Yes and we have come back on several occasions which show a good fighting spirit and a never say die attitude but we won't come back all the time! It proves we are slow starters to games. Another thing despite our defence looking much stronger on paper I still think there are some weaknesses, waterfall/Ohman both top notch in the air but when the ball is on the floor it is a different story...

Been absolute crap. Formation intercourse knows what it is, sloppy goal Gibson not strong enough, looked a clear pen on ogbu but the fussy clueless ref has not given it. Not sure what game your at aaron but waterfall Ludvig not the issue here. Midfield is. No control at all

Dire half. We don't have a plan B. Whack it up to the big man. Once that stops working we can't do anything else. Last week Crewe run rings round us. We need Rose back to run at defenders. I though Ogbu was handy in his first few games but he's lost his edge.

First 10 good. Looked like we were pressing high. Next 35 excrement really. Midfield is none existant and the only bright spot is Wright taking people on. Getting no luck in the box all 2nd balls landing to them ref missed what looked like clear peno when Ogbu was tripped going into the box chasing the pass.
Jolley has changed the formation to a 442 but Whitehouse isn't in the game at all on the left wing and theres too much of a gab between the midfield and the strikers. Ogbu is coming so deep Hanson is completely issolated. When we have the ball theres no movement (Gibson is getting really drunk off at this) and we're to pass iy back to Macca and forced to hoof.

Neither Waterfall or Ohman have done anything wrong in this game. Our problems have been the three central midfielders, all of whom offer very little on the ball and simply hoof it forward or turn and play it back to our own goal, Ogbu apparently playing wherever the intercourse he wants, Wright getting no support on the right and the ball not being played to him in time when he's got space to run into and Gibson looking totally out of his depth and being directly responsible for their goal. Never a penalty for me. The defender doesn't trip Ogbu - he's looking for it and goes down far too easily.

Listen jolley lately has been given credit and rightly so he has earned it but why on earth is elliot whitehouse playing left wing today? Its bizarre.
Ok green is injured so max wright comes in and rightly so but why play a central midfielder who is quite defensive as it is on the wing? Its inviting pressure on that side and everything we creating is coming from max wright's side.
Its not whitehouse fault he is being asked to play there but i cant help but think jolley has it in him to over complicate something when if we play 442 like today we just play ogbu and wright on the wings and play hanson and vernam up top.
The set up today just isnt looking or playing right. Frustrating because oldham aren't great but when we set up like we do today with Hewitt in midfield and whitehouse as a winger it just doesn't make any sense.
Either stick to the 433 or play wingers as wingers.

Think jolleys being too loyal to Whitehouse, I'd have him substituted for Vernham to get to some pace on both wings... We sound disjointed at best, MJ needs to change things now to get us back into this game..

What's happened to us, intercourse sake
Spent 2/3rds of the match playing a daft formation with countless players playing out of position while many of those actually in their usual positions have decided to take the afternoon off. For their second Hendrie missed his header and their lad buried the cross. Not massively dissimilar to Gibson for their first tbh.

He just cant help it can he?.
It's not a regular weekend without jolley trying to over complicate it.
The one thing i hate about michael jolley, we will find a winning team but then even if we get an injury he's asking macca to play left back.
Stop being clever and Play the players in there positions as today shows we cant switch it around too much.

As soon as I saw the midfield three my heart sank One paced No creativity No spark
At any level you need a little bit of something different Clifton not the answer unless he replaces one of three today
Robson/Cook/Vernam - one of these three should be in the starting line up
It's bloody frustrating but the modern way is to keep tinkering with the team... over thinking IMO but what do I know

I agree Needless tinkering "We look at the opposition and then pick a team that we think will win" So, obsessed with opposition I know you have to allow for EG; a 6ft 6ins strike but FFS let's concentrate on our best XI
And as I type this Cook scores
Tactical genius!

We are an attacking team and play better when we play aggressive forward football as the last 5 mins just showed, playing defensive central midfielders on the wing ain't us.
Once he figures this out we might go forward.

Sort of agree but better this than to have been 2-0 up and to feck it up like they've done

Amazing that he has demolished an early free scoring team, - in the middle of September - he needs to have a hard long look at himself in the mirror.
I guess he maybe liked what he saw there? Maybe he should look in the Mail, Express or Sun instead

Need one of (or two of) Robson/Cook/Vernam Pace Energy Invention
Hess Whitehouse Hewitt Clifton
Very uninspiring IMO - good at what they do but you must have creativity
Great fightback though But should it have come to that?

My expectations (from a distance) are measured after what we have been through over recent seasons. Last year we would have lost this game. On paper we should have won but from 2-0 down I am happy with a draw. There are a lot of inconsistent teams in this league, it's not just us. Crewe beat us easily last week but lost at home to Cambridge today, for example. The first target for me is to make sure we are not relegated. We are in better shape than last year, so let's take it step by step. I do not attend the games like most of the guys who comment on here. I understand the frustration but I was so shaken by the fact that this great, proud club had to suffer non-league stuff for all those years, I am relieved that we are back in the FL.

Well that would be a big improvement on the last two seasons. I think some people were getting a bit carried away with us being in the top 7 after a few games.

Is the manager just trying to keep a big squad happy and giving everyone a game? I can understand about Pollock and Green but it seems barmy to have found a good midfield setup and then dismantle it, especially when playing Cook there has opened up the options. Why not just keep players in their best positions and tell the unlucky ones to be patient? Not saying we would have been 3 up at half time but the starting XI today was just weird.

I get what you’re saying, but this is a small, manageable squad. Definitely not big.

Not sure I said it was on the basis of 7 League games. Anyway Town were scoring regularly early season. If the manager gets his tactics right, Town will score plenty more with the players at his disposal. Last Saturday we could have gone top - if 3 other results (including ours ) had been favourable. Had the pleasure of watching Exeter at Carlisle last Saturday - and their wingers were / sounded just like Crewe's - (allowed each midfield to run the game). I believe Town do have the personnel available - these managers do have to arrange them in an orderly fashion and stick to it!

Well how many games were we free-scoring then? 7 results is barely a trend. And you only want to count LESS than that?! Early season results: Morecambe 0 - Town 2 Town 1 - Bradford 1 Town 1 Donny 0 (L Cup) Forest Green1 Town 0 Tell me when the freescoring bit starts. And when the early season bit stops Town 2 - ColU 2 Still waiting for the freescoring stage. Oh hang on. It's arrived Town 5 - Port Fail 2 Walsall 1 - Town 3 Two games with > 2 goals. Good run this And it's over Town 0 - Crew 2 Could say it's still early season.....if you like, or maybe that ended with Walsall? Town 0 - Macc 0 (or do you want to count penalties in a penalty shoot out 'freescoring'?) Oldham 2 - Town 2. So out of that, what do you want to count as freescoring, and what do you want to count as freescoring? Oh. You moved the goalposts from 'freescoring' to scoring regularly. Scored 2 today mate. Failed to score in 2 games before that, so yeah, Jolley's ruined it hasn't he. FFS!

And it's over Town 0 - Crew 2 Could say it's still early season.....if you like, or maybe that ended with Walsall? Town 0 - Macc 0 (or do you want to count penalties in a penalty shoot out 'freescoring'?) Goal scoring downtrend
Oldham 2 - Town 2. Goal scoring downtrend continued until after half time until the penny dropped that the approach and personnel needed to be changed - goal scoring uptrend, after a blip, continued.
FFS!
Just seen this. Interesting that you diminish Port Vale to justify some sort of a point - looks like you agree. Also, Jolley (+ back up staff) realised his error at Oldham, finally, and put it right.

Cook picked up an injury and presumably wasn't fit to start.
