Well me and my lad are going. Hotel already booked for Fri and Saturday. I booked it through booking.com on an offer before checking reviews. BIG mistake. Thought I’d cracked it. 1-1/2 miles from city centre and parking at hotel. Twin room £80 for 2 nights.
For those of you that want a laugh. Read the reviews for Ebers Hotel Nottingham 😕

Why the sentimentality for Notts County? They were happy to come here and try to relegate us last season. I say send them down and not have them back in our league next year with extra money behind them.
The thing that pi5ses me off is that they are flat bottom of the league and have been rubbish all season, but we'll probably just go there and accept that they'll be more up for it than us.
I want the team to prove to us that they have a bit of guts, a bit of cynicism and nastiness about them, and to stop being so damn charitable to other teams. Our club is in a $hite state of affairs and doesn't have the luxury of "playing the game the right way" and caring about "a proper football club". If MJ and the team really care and really want to show the fans they have some professional pride, they'll go to Meadow Lane looking to relish the prospect of sending a big club down in front of 15,000 of their fans, and will use every trick in the book to make it happen. I want to see us taking these games seriously. I want to see us defending for our lives. I want to see us celebrate goals wildly. If we need a goal to condemn them to the Conference in the 90th minute, I want Macca in their box, or someone winning a dodgy penalty. Come on town, show us you have the balls to wear the shirt.

My feelings exactly, but........ ......you know they will most probably beat us with an 89th minute Mitch Rose penalty and stay up! Hope we have a clause that says he can't play against us, but that would probably mean Dennis can't play for us (Is that a bad thing though?).

I don't think you put those sort of clauses in deals anymore? (Rose I mean, as he's their player)
As Dennis is also their player, I'm guessing he can't play (like Clements on the last day of last season)
As for Notts County, I'd happily see them go down, 'proper' club or not.

Not fussed either way all I want to is Town score and win a game,
If we did win it would not be us sending them down they have played 44 other games during the season apart from playing us.

If you like a good cheesecake the “Cheesecake Shop” is virtually opposite the hotel and is incredible. Their factory/unit (with shop) is very close to Meadow Lane on the A612 towards the racecourse from the Lady Bay retail park and closes at 17:15 on Saturday’s for those interested. You have to double back at the next roundabout and it’s next to Topps Tiles. If Town are going to get humiliated those in attendance could at least have the consolation of an incredible cheesecake to soften the blow.

The choice isn't between Notts County and Salford, but between Notts and either Yeovil and Macclesfield.
Shame we only have 1000 tickets for next weekend as it promises to be a grand day out and a great chance for our young lads from today to give it a real go against a team that's sitting worst in the league and will be nervous with the weight of a big crowd on them.
Another last minute winner will do nicely.

Some County fans on their forum saying next Saturday's game against us is the biggest in their history.
I can see it all kicking off if we send them down unfortunately....pleased I don't do away games any more.

Think today Jolley had his opportunity to explain what he was doing 7 players out Youth in Better than last year Still 6 points to play for.
They don't seem to be bothered if they send Notts down, which they might
Think it's time to cut him some slack and hope for a good transfer window in the summer

Would not disagree plus a dig at the fans for criticism after Colchester game and a “ government type” approach to statistics by ignoring the ten game winless run by going back a further 5 matches to include our last decent spell. To be honest find his interviews as boring and repetitive as Hurst’s used to be particularly his continual building up of the opposition and their capabilities. That said decent performance today and whilst Rose & Vernam are nowhere near the finished article having their pace and Davis & Whitmore at centre back made such a positive difference to our approach to the game. Have to say I have struggled to understand why Whitmore has not played more often and whilst I appreciate he may have had the odd nightmare he has always played decent game when I have seen him in a back four.

So let me get it straight.... we lose at Colchester 1-0 and it's Jolley's fault but we beat Carlisle 1-0 and he can't take any credit for that? Funny but I thought I'd read here recently that all of the players now were his alone and nobody he'd inherited, so why not take praise for HIS team winning? UTM

The difference is in this division we're in the middle of the pack financially so many teams should be relatively good compared to us, whereas for most of Hurst's time we were one of the better funded clubs. Jolley bigging up the opposition is realistic. Hurst was just giving himself an excuse.

Take your point but in reality think this season L2 has been at its weakest since our return with no stand out teams like Donny, Portsmouth and Plymouth when we returned or Luton and Accrington last season, and we won at their place. Even the locals have been saying how poor Lincoln have played since Xmas and they walked the title. Carlisle were pretty average today, decent, especially Ohara ?, number 17, but they created one chance all game. Just think he needs to be more positive about his own team and inject a more positive approach to our play and make them worry about us. The comment about stumbling on today’s team has some validity as would Collins have been omitted, would Vernam and Rose have both started? I am not one who advocates changing the Manager but I do think the Manager has to change and hopefully he will have learned an awful lot this year. Today’s approach with better players would be a great start and let’s hope this was the acorn with the mighty oak still to come.

My biggest gripe is how negative we are.Has MJ found Slade's power points and statistics and decided to use them?
When Carlisle had a corner they had one centre half near the halfway line with nobody to mark, meaning that they had extra defenders in our penalty area. Leave one up would have meant that they would have had to pull one or two defenders back to cover him.
Why do we bunch up on the halfway line for goal kicks? Macca just hoofs it upwards which just gives it back to them. It's awful. Spread out across the pitch which stretches them out and gives us more space, and hit it flatter for us to chest it down or flick on or summat. At least we have half a chance of getting the ball down instead of trying to out jump a seven foot tall giant.
When we break from a corner we always have to slow down to allow the rest to catch up. It's very basic stuff but it seems to pass by our coaching staff.

Anybody stopping over and looking for something to do on Sunday, it's Notts CC open day. £2 entry and they are playing a 20/20 against Yorkshire. You also get to go on the pitch and meet the players 👍

Macca hardly varies his kicks. So often a gift to the opposing defence. Little evidence of a tactical ploy, just kick it as high as possible?

Let's all be right about this macca is a good keeper, not great but good and he is a great shot stopper whilst being pretty capable in one and one situations.. Where he falls down is his distribution, kicks are aimed in a general direction in the hope we get an head in it and when he catches the ball from crosses etc he is far to slow to release it, which in turn gives the opposition all the time in the world to get back into position and snuff out another aimless punt up field.. I sometimes wonder if that is why Marcus Bignott couldn't wait to get a new keeper a la Dean Henderson and drop macca to the bench..

Not sure which locals you have been talking too, but we have lost once since Boxing Day , against Carlisle and we had 10 men for over an hour. I think the league has been strong, in that anyone can beat anyone on their day - I actually don't think there have been many weak teams - I just think we have been consistent and very hard to beat, which has set us aside. We will have to pay some cash though if we want to make any impression next year, as there are some giants in that league financially compared to ourselves.

Very tough league next year that one. I wonder if Bolton will cut their cloth accordingly or go for it. I expect Ipswich to throw some money at it. Luton are up and Barnsley will probably take the other automatic space but that leaves 1 of Sunderland, Portsmouth, Charlton, Doncaster, Peterborough or Coventry taking the other promotion place. Some big established clubs with good fan bases in amongst that. It is more of a footballing division than League 2 and it will be a step too far for some of your players, Rhead being the main one. You have got some players that have played to a good standard though (Bostwick, Frecklington, Shackell, Eardley) so it will be interesting to see how you fare or if League 1 is beyond some of them now. I do wonder if we will see some of your players deemed not good enough for League 1 arriving here. I don't think you will be at the top end but you never know. You are on the crest of a wave so anything can happen. There is definitely a difference between League 2 and the top half of League 1 which is to be expected when you consider the difference between League 1 and The Championship.

Macca is good enough, we have more problems in front of him. I'm sure he was up there in terms of most saves made in the division. Unless we jump up 2 leagues we're not going to get anything much better than Macca anyway.

I didn't insinuate he wasn't good enough, imho he's one of the best in the division . But Maccas problems/deficiencies have nothing to do what's in front As I've said it's his distribution, time and time again he likes up into the crowd when there's massive spaces to exploit and waits too long to release the ball out if his hands..all that said if he had developed this side of his game he would definitely be playing higher up the football echelons..

I just want to see Town finish on a high with three successive wins, and if one of those sends someone down into the non league game am ambivalent about that. We currently have two more points than we had last season, so despite everything that's happened we've improved - even if it seems like one step forward two steps backwards at times. Beat Crewe this weekend and then County, because we do these things in blocks, and we're on 59 points, a decent enough platform to build on for n ext season.

On Saturday 27th of April 2019, there will be an additional train service from Cleethorpes train station to Nottingham, the train will leave at 0918 hrs and will travel via Barnetby and Market Rasen. There will then be an extra service for the return of Grimsby Town supporters, departing Nottingham at 1740 hrs. Grimsby supporters are able to drink on this service.

So if a family are using this train for a day trip to Notts but don't support Town they cannot drink, one way of increasing our support I suppose!

It's an East Midlands Trains service not a TPE.

Unless you're in Corfu or at an airport, that's a pretty early start!
I suspect some won't remember much beyond half time. I certainly wouldn't.

I don't see the problem with not being able to drink on a train and I like a drink.

| The wife was going away for a girly weekend. I jokingly remarked 'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football' 'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked She said 'Well you already know how to play football' |

Me neither but if I can't have a drink solely because I'm a football fan then I'm afraid I've a massive problem with it.

My point was to highlight how the statement was worded, it could have been interpreted thus, 2 men of 25 years of age go to the buffet car, first man is dressed in a jacket and tie with his 5 year old daughter by his side, asks for a lager shandy, steward asks him if he's a GTFC supporter, replies no, so steward says sorry but he's not allowed a drink. Steward now asks the second man what he would like, this man is already slurring his words and struggling to stand up, he asks for 8 bottles or lager, steward replies it's a pleasure to serve him and even carries the drinks to the mans seating area. Now the first man suddenly pipes up that he's supported Grimsby Trinity all his life, steward now serves him.
