I know I'm a cynical old sod but there were two articles regarding GTFC and our friends down the A46 on Look North tonight. One, our very own MJ auctioning off his MoM award and the other being Lincoln involving kids learning how to run their club on a match day. To me, one huge difference, ours being an individual's decision to make a difference, like he did by visiting individuals in hospital, whilst Lincoln's was a whole club effort. Wouldn't it be nice for our whole club to integrate with the community rather than just let our manager make all the right moves?

I know but their board are more forward thinking and have quite a few in the boardroom mostly made up of local business men. Then compare it ours.
Personally I only really care about Town... And I hope the gimps slum continues and are forced into the playoffs 😂

My ideal scenario would see us beat the Gimps at Wembley on May 25th. That said, we must do better off the pitch.

I think you are being very harsh there. Fenty did that ice bucket challenge for charity for example. It wasn't all about him even though he stood on the touchline Adonis like with his towel casually placed around his shoulders as he showed off his physique to the minions. Got a heart of gold that lad.

Think the club do plenty in the community to be fair. Players always making appearances and the Manager too. I accept people could say "we could always do more" as you could say that to anything, but I don't think this is something to level at the club currently. Under Jolley particularly, he seemsto be pushing more community involvement/visits.

I appreciate that it's frustrating to see Lincoln suddenly become world beaters on and off the pitch, but the constant comparisons to them on here are a little unhelpful. The club's community work is one of the few things about us that can be lauded, and while there is definitely more to be done, directly comparing it to another club's efforts is a bit pointless. We should be taking inspiration from successful ideas elsewhere, clearly, but there seems to be an attitude that if Lincoln are doing something and we aren't, it's exact proof of why we are now trailing in their wake.
They'll be going up this season and deservedly so. Football is cyclical and the tide will turn again.

Does anyone know where you can plot the respective finishing positions of the 2 clubs over the years? I can't seem to find anything that you can put 2 teams into to compare them anywhere?

Unhelpful to who? The point of drawing comparisons (benchmarking if you like) is to see what other people in similar positions do better. We SHOULD be looking at Lincoln and adopting those strategies that work. It’s good that the club is doing more (which mainly seems to be initiatives from the squad/staff side or from the Trust but naff all from the commercial side or director led). If you want us to hide from what more successful outfits like LCFC are doing you’re reinforcing the inertia.

A little unhelpful to who? The board? Those that don't want to listen? Like it or not, GTFC is a business that has been run in the same way for far too long and someone very close to the club has told me as much. If you carry on doing what you are doing then you'll continue to get what you've got. We should be taking notice of other people's success and the likes of Lincoln and Accrington are great examples of small clubs succeeding.

If Lincoln hadn't shot past us on the pitch, people wouldn't be oozing with paranoia about every single difference between the two clubs. There are reasons that we've fallen behind - mostly our club's fault - but our community work (or lack of, if you believe that) isn't the reason. I would love to see new ideas put into practice to advertise what our club gives to the local community and surrounding areas, but not all of Lincoln's ideas will necessarily be as successful for us. That's not to say we shouldn't copy them if we can make them work, but I suppose my general point is that Lincoln aren't suddenly the gospel of all football business nous that everyone should be emulating. We're going to be the lowest ranked Lincolnshire side in the EFL next season and I suppose it will be hard for people to accept that. I actually find it exciting that we've got some real rivals to try and catch in the coming years. I just think it best that people stop panicking about a supposedly smaller rival overtaking us as I believe that's what's driving the constant comparisons. I'm as frustrated by our lack of progress as you are; if we can improve our standing in the community as a start, I'd be delighted.

It's not paranoia! And like I said, adopt the strategies that work, not slavishly follow whatever they do.
