Someone mentioned Gowling on another thread and it got me thinking that there's loads of excrement from the dark days, and then there were some gems. But who was unsung?

Gowling for one.

I remember a game where Clayton MacDonald sprayed a 50 yard pass from defence to the left, but he is obviously not a great candidate.

Elding was a dependable front man tol

Don't think he was underated in truth but Richard Tait was a fine full back and would have very much been worthy of carrying on at right back in L2 if only he'd not moved on.

N’siala for me.

Great centre half who would have performed well for us in the league. Didn’t seem to be particularly loved by the fans mind.

Craig Clay for me... Revered by some fans when he first signed but in my eyes was a very good player who added a bit of bite to our midfield.

Marcus Marshall also, who was instrumental in us gaining promotion. I'd he'd not come on in that second leg I don't think we'd have won it.

Marcus Marshall is an interesting one. Classic Hurst signing, in that he was taken on and then hardly played, so his contribution over a length of time was minimal, but he was absolutely pivotal in that play off semi. He was brilliant in his cameo and we absolutely wouldn't have been promoted without that little decisive Input of his that day.

You'd have to say Scott Brown.as much as I disliked him he's still playing regular div 1 football. I'd also suggest the fact that the shop has attained the same level suggests that he too was underrated

Not sure what the criteria is for this ?.....but I'll go for Shaun Pearson

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Townsend was the best player in the division, not sure he was underrated!

weren't magnay and pearson both players of the season, which also disqualifies them from being underrated?

Derek Niven, Manny Panther, Joe Colbeck, Jack Mackreth ...

Not superstar players by any means but all did an effective job!
