England could beat Sweden, Russia and Belgium to win the World Cup, neatly allowing everyone else to knock out the favourites

Who would we prefer to play.......Russia or Croatia.......even though they have the home backing I would prefer to play Russia.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Quoted from Les Brechin

Surely that must be the first time anyone has compared Gateshead to Uruguay.

Lots of similarities. Both lie on the banks of a famous river, opposite a more famous footballing place.

River Plate / River Tyne
Uruguay / Argentina
Gateshead / Newcastle
Locals are puzzled when outsiders don't realise the differences between the people on either side of the river
Outsiders don't give a shite.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.
