I heard something on the radio the other day about a couple of councillors effectively putting a blocker in but then this in the telerag as well

FFS Can not see this EVER happening.

No need to panic at all. This is the referral of the decision back to the regeneration committee that JF mentioned at last week's forum. You 'll need to point out to me though which of the comments appear to be well-informed. All I saw was the usual no infrastructure balderdash.

The Lib Dums and Cllr de FruityArse are having another go at mobilising the nay-saying NIMBYs.

Still would like to see someone from Extreme front and centre bigging up the development.

It's at the junction of Wallington St, Dorban Rd, Pork St, Quim Hairy Avenue and Curr Lane.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Why is DeFreitas making the argument that the land is being OVER-valued?  Surely he would be more concerned if it was being undervalued from a council perspective?

Bit that gets me is this; "They also believe that other uses for the land the proposed stadium will be built on have not even been considered"

Yeah, the dozens of developments just begging for the chance to bring some development and growth to the area.

I'm not concerned, I think the stadium will happen now but the short-sighted attitudes in this town that have left us at least 30 years behind most of the country really urine me off.

I have no idea if this is true of course, but if he wants to use playground tactics, then so shall I.

That's pretty much my understanding. The vote was in favour of not sending it back to full council for further debate.

Game over for the NIMBYs ....

Over to Town and Extreme to deliver then.

De Freitas was not part of the vote is was the scrutiny panel, meeting chair person and another guy.  Voted in favour of it not to go to full council debate.  As far as I could tell as it was difficult to hear!

A prime example of why the new stadium needs to move forward asap..............

From a Morecambe fan on whether a new ground improves financial stability:

As for the stadium, I believe the hospitality side does make money. Not sure about the gym/arti pitches etc though.

Depends who you believe! The current board of directors say it does make money yet Joseph Cala and his cronies say they've seen the books and it's a massive drain on the clubs finances.

PMG Leisure which encompasses the Football in the Community and all weather pitches ticks over at a tiny profit supposedly. However, the projections made before the ground move have fallen way short of what they thought it would bring in money wise.

The big issue with our ground move (well, one of) is that the plan being the bar would be open 7 days a week and be a roaring success. It had its opening hours slashed to only being open on match days months after it opened as it was a massive flop. There's now a successful chain pub open within a stones throw of the bar built on land sold to the chain by the football club.

Secondly, the gym. This flopped massively too and was shut to the public shortly after opening. I think the players still use it as what was initially built to be the players gym in the main stand got converted into a beer cellar because they forgot to build a beer cellar when constructing the ground.

The plan now supposedly (and was the 2nd stage of the ground move that was originally planned) is to build an office block, digs for youth players and a hotel. The thinking behind the digs supposedly is that currently we have to pay for youth players to stay with families locally, by having digs we can just put them in that and then pocket all the funding we receive that we're currently paying out to the families.

The big part of finding a new owner is getting someone with the cash to fund construction of all these things.

So in summary, don't believe the hype about ground move = financial security. Maybe some clubs can make it work but our lot have proven they were way out of their depth in terms of having the capabilities to make such a thing a success. About 12 months before we announced the ground move there were plans drawn up re-develop the Car Wash Terrace at Christie Park to incorporate office space and hospitality. In hindsight many of us are wishing we had gone down this route now.
