Head of Recruitment. Sounds a positive step and explains why he has been around the club since MB came in. Let's hope he can unearth some gems.

Still not got that strength and conditioning coach yet though.

Maybe if we had a head of recruitment in this close season we may not have ended up with some of the players many are now concerned about.

Am I the only one a bit confused by this? Positive appointment to the staff team I get but doesn't Marcus recruit the players he wants? Is this another name for chief scout? Fair play if so. Not meant to be negative/critical, just a bit confusing in the light of our stated need for perhaps a fitness/conditioning professional? I'm presuming he has gone from volunteer to employee. All good.

Yesterday's chief scout is today's Head of Recruitment- it's the contemporary way. A bog cleaner is now a sanitary assistant.

Excellent, he seems to know this league and the divisions either side of it. Hopefully, he will bring a wealth of contacts throughout the footballing ladder. We do need to increase the non playing football staff so this is a positive step.

Important role, we don't want Marcus spending all of his time clocking up miles scouting for players. This should ensure we bring quality and talent to the Club. Although a cost to the Club, this investment could have significant pay-back. Let's not forget we are not just a football club but a business that must protect its future. This is first class management by the Club and JF.

This permanent appointment puts a different slant on the implication, on the thread a few days ago, that the club was too skint to afford to have Gary Whild on the payroll. It is quite possible that he was volunteering his services, at no charge, to see if he wanted to commit himself to the club. It also gave the club, ie MB, an opportunity to see what GW brought to the club.

Hopefully we'll see the benefits on the field sooner rather than later.

He has got his targets and we are actively pursuing them, that`s the advantage of a recruitment officer he`s keener for results,  more so than the manager its his reputation thats on line

Interesting read about S&C coaches and their benefit to Football clubs.

Evidently West Brom have the oldest squad but the least injuries causing withdrawls from matchday squads.

No coincidence that they have the most advanced S&C dept in the country.

Anyone know if GTFC are seriously considering investing in this area?

I think the priority at the moment is getting somewhere to train when the weather is bad. The training ground resembles the Somme after heavy rain. I think the management team are looking at all aspects of the off the field set up and will in time address all the issues they feel need addressing. As ever, things take time.

I am sure there must be some pitch space available in Grimsby, even if it's an artificial surface. When I was a kid the players used to train at schools which made it a little bit of an event for the hosts and also drummed up a few younger new fans. I suppose the lack of school fields puts a damper on that these days?

When Bill Shankly was our manager the beach was plenty good enough for
training.

If it was good enough for him it should be good enough for the current crop.

We used to play hours on the beach during the winter months when I was a kid,

Until the tide came in

Not possible in the summer as we had lots of yorkies taking their holidays in Cleethorpes in the 50's early 60's

It was great for building your fitness up.

Not sure they would be allowed to do this in the modern era - you would need to have CRB checks on all the players and coaching staff before they were allowed on site!

CRB does not exist anymore it's now DBS = Disclosure Barring Service. Under the agreement of a Safeguarding officer they could possibly go in under chaperone as they would not be directly working with pupils. Immaterial now though as modern managers appear to want training "facilities" rather than "pitches"

Last week was half-term so Bradley FDC would've been fully booked with the kids courses and parties they do.

And that was between being a coalman in the morning and a lumper down docks at night. They were real men in those days.

Things move on and i'm sure there are places the team can run around and train but we need somewhere with all the facilities in one place.
