Long way to go yet, but they could be in a relegation battle soon if they're not careful.

And it wasn't long ago on here that people was lauding the tactical expertise of their manager. Funny old game.

We couldn't get near them last year. think they kept pretty much the same team this season. So much for consistency.

PH has made a number of very large calls and he's been proven right on every occasion.

Agree with Mrs Doyle. I suppose if you win a league by 73 points the natural inclination is to keep things the same. We won 2 games having been shite since January. Common sense really by PH.

Looking on their fans forum, some of their fans are quite pessimistic but they have their optimists as well. They didn't make enough summer signings but nobody really seems to know why that is.

Gary Johnson isn't a mug so perhaps there's more to it than meets the eye.

Still early days IMO. Lots of settling down yet.

At present I am happy we won't be in a scrap to stay up and maybe, just maybe we could at least challenge for the play offs.

Certainly need to take at least 4 points from next 2 home games

Shows that there is actually a massive gulf between the conference and L2. The team we've got now would comfortably beat last season's side IMO and we're sat midtable currently.

I think the simplest explanation is Johnson IS a good and very experienced manager, and made the best of his resources. At Conference level, with the parachute payment, Cheltenham had a budget in the same ballpark as us. Back in the League they are a middling-smallish club and don't have our resources.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Without doing to much homework on them , they also already had a big squad , a lot of there financing was tied up , is my educated guess, hence why they never off loaded much, plus the fact they did very well last season. They believed they never needed to. Time will tell.

This is likely to be the case. Johnson is good. The point was made on the C5 show on Saturday night that he had won 4 promotions with Cheltenham and Yeovil. None of them have been with massive budgets, he knows how to get value for money and he knows how to build a team to compete in the league he is in. They may only be mid-table unless they put a run together late on but their fans are probably being a bit pessimistic at present. September means very little, a lot can change by next April.

Agree lots can change, but if we were in their position the Fishy would full of pessimism and the Hurst Out banners would be getting an airing. Just saying.

I believe Chelts had a clear out when they were relegated and are now stuck with good conference players on 2 year+ contracts meaning they would have had to pay players off to get rid of them to make room for new ones.

Quite so, there are some Johnson Out banners at Cheltenham too and plenty of talk of relegation battles on their forum. We aren't unique in that respect.

They need to be careful down there if they follow that instruction.....could end up being arrested for indecent exposure!

In the bottom 2 now, looking (at the moment at least) Hursty got it right having a clear out and the gap is wider than first thought
