An amazing turnout and a fitting send off for Matty. Too many people there to pick out many individuals but did see Kenny Arthur, Michael Coulson, Frankie Artus and a couple of the Football in the Community guys.

It brought a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye as they carried Matty's coffin down the aisle draped in a GTFC flag with a Mighty Mariner toy sat on the front. Matty was also wearing his "Dawson 24" shirt the vicar later informed us.

Matty's family also showed amazing courage, as the vicar said, no parent should have to suffer the death of a child.

RIP MATTY, SLEEP WELL MATE.

Very sad, but a lovely service going on Les's report. Great to see some GTFC representatives. Very best wishes to Matts family, he did everyone proud in unimaginable circumstances.

So long No 24.

I couldn't make today due to work but I took time out at around 11:40 and said a few words to the big man.  Look after this lad, you've took a good one from us and he deserves the best.

24 will always be your number Matt, you more than earned it.

Matt was a cracking lad, a shining light and a beacon of hope.  For someone so young, he showed people how to face up to adversity and will be sadly missed.

God bless you and your family Steve,

Non footy ..

Oh, sorry. I do apologise for posting a thread about one of our most respected posters who was football mad and was an honorary member of the Grimsby Town Football Team.

If one of our players tragically died will that have to be posted in the "non footy" section. Matty had as much right to be a member of The Mariners squad than any of our players.

I'm sure you're pleased to have acheived your goal of upsetting almost everyone on here and more importantly Matty's family whos Dad also posts on here.

Well done.

Common sense comes to mind i'm not one for moaning about rules etc.  But i think we can justify it for one of our own.

When we lose one of our own such as Icey, Matt, Meggiesbeergut (and anyone else I have may have missed, apologies), football pales into insignificance, those who can not see it are truly blind to life.  Non footy, without the likes of those who have passed there would be no football teams, fans come first, they are the life blood of any club and when they are taken from us they take center stage.

never met the lad but from what i've heard he was one on his own, a true symbol of hope for people, a true mariner and an avid poster. He was a credit to the supporters of our club and should never be allowed to be forgotten.

I didn't know about Icey

I didn't know about MeggiesBeerGut,  either this happened a few years back before I started to post on here or I have completely missed it!  Never the less it's awful that 3 top fans have passed away, and as for 'non footy' Don't get me bloody started.

We also lost Hippo aka RampantRiverHorse not so long back. We'll almost need some roll of honour soon to remember these people. It's a sad place recently, along with the teams demise

So you should be Dorothy and Steve, Matty told me a number of times on facebook about the amazing times he had had at Wembley, Disneyland, Old Trafford and the likes, you really made his final months as good as they possibly could have been for the lad. You should also be very proud of the way you've raised such a nice lad, he was a pleasure to talk to, and will never be forgotten. Top credit to you as parents to such a top lad. He is in a pain free place where he will be enjoying watching the Mariners from the best seat in the house!

God bless you and your family and my sincerest condolences for your tragic loss.
You have every right to be the proudest parents in the world, Matty was truly amazing and the fans on Tuesday rightly reflected that.

It was an absolute pleasure to be one of Matt's friends, in addition to the message I left on the card at the church I'd just like to say what an impact Matt had on us all here, total legend.

Dorothy and Steve, I hope that Matt's legacy on this forum will continue to inspire those going through tough times.  His courage and bravery was inspirational and from his plaudits you can see that many took Matt into their hearts.  I had some good banter with Matt and some of the banter he gave back was beyond his years.  Matt was a credit to you both, a lovely lad who deserved so much more out of life than the cards he got dealt.

I never met the lad but have followed the various threads. When my time comes I really hope I can face it with the same bravery and dignity. But I doubt it. If a quarter of the people I know can look on me in the same light.... Fishy Members, you have done your good selves and Matty proud.

Sad day indeed. May be we can have a memorial award that The Fishy awards to the player ( in our view) of the season, the one who has fought and given his all for GTFC just as Matty did. Sorry if this is not a new idea but just occurred to me.......

Its hard enough remembering my opinions without remembering my reasons for them!

It was a pleasure to be there Dot. I only got to know Matty for the last year or so and he was always such a positive and friendly lad than me made anyone else's problems pale into insignificance. You are right to be proud of him as he was one in a million and I hope that his legacy will live on for a very long time.

I wish you, Steve and the rest of your family all the best for the future Dot.

xxx

Absolutely spot on suttonmariner. The lad travelled regularly on our battlebus and it was a pleasure to have known him well. R.I.P. forever Matty
