Afternoon fishgadgies and fishgadgesses.  Hartlepool fan here.

Apologies if this is classed as spam but I'm hoping somebody might be able to help me in tracking down a little bit of pre-war Grimsby Town info.  I have spent the last few years developing a Hartlepools United website, which contains all matches, lineups, goalscorers etc. since HUFC was formed.  I'm getting towards the end and have just a few dozen matches from the last 90 years for which my opposition info is incomplete.

My Grimsby page is here...

...and the info I am missing is from the 1935/36 season.

HUFC played Grimsby Town in the third round of the that season's FA Cup, one of the years that Town reached the semis.  The first game finished goalless before Grimsby won the replay 4-1.  Would anybody on here happen to know what the Grimsby team lineups were in those two games, and who scored the goals in the replay?  The matches were played on the 11th and 14th of January 1936.

Any help will be much appreciated.  If this isn't possible, then I'll just wish you all the best for the coming season.  Hope it's not too long before you're back in the FL.  Always enjoyed my trip down there.

Best wishes
John Phillips

Great stuff Les, much appreciated.

I've updated those two matches and my Grimsby data is now complete.  I even found a new Pools player (of sorts) when I was looking up the full names.  Jack Hodgson apparently had a brief trial for us before joining the Mariners.  No first team appearances, but a Poolie all the same.

Thanks again
John

The aim of argument or discussion should not be victory but progress.

What library? I went to both games, I've just got a very good memory.

Seriously, it's all in - Grimsby Town, A Complete Record (1878-1989)
