Worst defender regarding value for money would be Matt 'total dog excrement' Heywood.
Worst defender for time on the pitch = Tom 'Dime bar' Newey. In fact if we had a penny for every cross Newey allowed into the box we'd have more money than the Euro lottery winner the other day.

We've had some really horrific defenders in recent times havn't we. Jamie Clarke with his brilliant ability to pass the ball to the other team,Richard Hope for being on the pitch and not really doing anything at all, Tom Newey for running around like a headless chicken and not tackling EVER and Heywood for being as mobile as a rock and as fast as a Tortoise. The Tortoise would have probably been more use.

With regard to Futcher, he was utter excrement because he wasn't called Paul. In fairness, it was like comparing a Golf to a Rolls Royce, the Golf is ok and does a decent job, but whatever it does, it can never possibly be a Rolls Royce and will struggle by comparison every time. The others mentioned, were Trabants at best.

Futcher was not poor. Heywood, Hope, Samuels, Bull, Downey, Crane, Clarke and Watt were poor. At the time Futcher was here he had to compete for a place with Jones and Whittle. At the age of 30, he's still playing at a level above us.
Futcher was poor in my opinion, apologies if you don't agree with it.

Where on earth did you conjure up some of the things in your post, you alleged that Ray Lancaster lacked in.
The statement that the Telegraph reported that he was struggling with his breathing because the Cleethorpes sea air was thicker and cleaner than where Ray came from which is Rotheram.
Now I am going to stick up for Ray because I know him well, I was a young lad when I first met Ray, when you join a football club you listen to players who have been around longer than yourself. I learnt a lot of things of Ray when I was kid.
Did you know that Ray was on the edge of the England under twenty one team till he had to have the cartidges in both legs addressed and he was never the same again. came to Grimsby a great football professional I learnt a lot of Ray Lancaster and in my eyes you have got the story all wrong Ray Lancaster is now to me a realy nice person and always helped the young lads at G.T.F.C. newfootballer
No need to get your knickers in a twist Dave. You don't need to "stick up for Ray" as far as I am concerned. I am only repeating the story that was told at the time. I did say he came with a good reputation, he was a good player, so it was a bit of a surprise when he made his debut and played like that and that's what the GT said some little time later. Yes, as I mention, he went on to play locally and yes I am aware he helped a lot of players to develop. It just struck me that the reason given was very odd. Were the knee problems the real reason for Ray Lancaster only playing a few games then? And did he do them both in at Rotherham before he was signed here? Perhaps the club didn't want to admit that, I don't know. And yes Les, it is a bit more than 10 years. But nobody else seems to stick to thread titles so I thought, why should I?

Tom Newey for me.
Thought he was a footballer in the Roberto Carlos mould and he wasn't.Lost count of the goals conceded from his side of the pitch and the penalties he gave away in our relegation season.
A non tackling fullback who let wingers do as they pleased.
Heywood a close second but thankfully,he didn't get on the pitch much.
