We are about to sign a new attacking midfield player and a striker.

We have been in talks with the striker for 3 weeks. He has other options available to him in the BSP but he has held out on the Grimsby situation to see if Connell would stay. He was told that his appearances would be limited whilst Connell, Hearn and Damo are all here. But that he would get more starts if Connell left. He didn't want to be just a squaddie but he is now happy to sign.

The midfield player was a league 2 man last year, a fringe player released when his club missed out on promotion in the play offs.

Guess away fellas. I will tell you if you guess right.

Robbie Fowler?

Joking aside. Hurst and Scott seem to be bringing the right men in that want to play for the club and fight for a place in the team.

Now Connell has gone. What are Hearns odds on top goal scorer now. Was 20/1 before.

I'll be fuming if we do replace Connell with SWD. Only scored 14 in BSN last season

You'll be fuming - but our managers will (presumably) be happy.

Let me think for a moment which strikes me as more important....

I can never tell if you're taking the urine or not, but my extensive research has led me to this bloke......
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raymond_Putterill
"His nickname is 'Razor' both in relation to his 1st name 'Ray' and also his aggressive playing style much like former Liverpool legend 'Razor Ruddock'."
Plays anywhere along the midfield, although usually on the left.
Doesn't strike me as somebody we need though.

Give us the initials of these two then. Or even just one ? If they're right and we sign these two you might just get some respect back, if not i'm blocking you as it's getting beyond tedious now.

I guess only time will tell if he's right, the striker could be the halifax lad....as for the midfielder it could anyone from the 4 playoff finalists Accrington, Shrewsbury, Torquay and Stevenage.  Not many been released by Torguay and Stevenage mainly left to join other teams, a couple have left Shrewsbury i.e. Disley, Mckntyre, Elder, and some joining other clubs.

Hell knows who it could be

The managers would literally be picking their starting lineup.
With him in we'd probably be seeded, cos players of that quality don't grow on tres.

Why don't you give us names? We could all sit here and say a striker is coming in given that we've just sold Connell.

It doesn't take a genius to work out what has been going on. No managers would let the Connell saga drag on without making some enquiries about replacement(s). Looking at the way ours have filled the squad so far they obviously have had targets in mind. Equally obviously the odds were shortening every day on whether Connell was staying or not so their enquiries will have intensified.

I don't really understand why people seem so surprised about stuff happening in secret, behind the scenes. You can't expect clubs and players to do business and give all the supporters a live running commentary on it. Some folks expect too much and expect to know too much as though they have a right to be kept informed hour by hour. Partly it is the club's own fault for having the text service and encouraging people to think like that.

In the end what matters is what players we get on the field and the results they achieve. Gossip about who might be coming and going is just that - gossip, old women nattering over the garden wall. We are entertained by it but we shouldn't take it as gospel.

“If all mankind minus one, were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.”

As an aside (because i have no clue about him),why is everyone on a downer at the prospect of SWD possibly signing?

If i remember rightly, when we signed Connell, most of the comments were of the "crap goalscoring record" variety and now a year later people are crying into their beer that he has gone.

OK, I'll have a punt. Let's presume it's someone upt norf. Can't see anyone signing from Torquay or the Shrews for that matter of fact. Stevenage were promoted and that leaves Accrington.

I'll plump for Andy Parkinson as he was released. There was another midfielder but think he's only about 20. Parkinson is about 32 so would offer some experience and of course has played here before -80 odd games? He also has experience with Gateshead and Cambridge in the BSP.

Striker - not sure on that one - there are so many average ones about and the goodies want money or are already with a club.

Only having a guess oldun - I really haven't got a clue but just tried to deduce from the play-offs bit. These days it's unusual for players to sign from far away in the lower leagues - see the thing with Connell and there was that striker, was it Butler, who was having a nightmare travelling form the midlands. Shrews usually pay pretty high wages and again quite some distance. Stevenage were promoted and again a long way to re-settle etc. That left Accers who I think released 2 mids., one of which was Mr. Parko.

Think he's a scouser by trade so that leaves him in the M62 corridor but haven't a clue where he's actually based.

Again, going backwards if we tried to sign him - too old!

It wouldn't be Anthony Elding who's coming as the striker; would it?

Mansfield had a bid accepted for him last week but he turned them down, like you say obviously thinks he can get in at Plymouth, were he is on trial.

A steady wage for at least a year ?

Possibly but it would persuade me not to sign for them knowing that if we did well we still wouldnt go up, each to there own though.

Weir Daley - Correct.
Well done those that got that one.

The midfielder. Remember I said he was a fringe player.

Well I also think it's Parkinson but if not, is it Chris Turner ?

I'm not sure you're accurate anyway - what do we need an attacking midfielder for ?

Why are you even asking this guy? He's a terrible WUM. The same guy who claimed Steve Evans was definitely going to be manager and that he worked at towns legal firm so he knew everything. He's a spotty 13year old scunt and he's just wacked out his 10th male masturbation of the morning because you lot are all taking the bait!

Most probably, but I'm testing his water to confirm who these players are and whether they come.
If they don't it suggests he got lucky with a guess.
If he's right again then you've got to respect his info.
Time will tell (if he ever names the midfielder)

Oh 80s come on!! He named Weir Daley as the possible new signing. That name was being banded about long before his post. And, hmmm, will we get another striker in after having just sold one, toughie.

Not really...

It was common knowledge Connell wanted to be in league football and closer to home...

It was also expected that the club would be looking for a six figure sum...

Swindon have been trying to sign a striker and failed a couple of times, it was also announced that Di-canio would have a few quid to spend...

With knowledge of the above it is a highly likely that Swindon may have Connell on the radar... It is also highly likely that Connell would want to go to swindon...

Not many other teams in league two would fit the above criteria if any... And it was highly unlikely that he would go into league one...

I am getting completely chuffed off with you lot now. Look this isn't some sort of Derren Brown illusion. The info about Connell was genuine information given to me by somebody in the know in football.

I just don't know why I bother.
