Last season town scored 72 goals and we will need the same or slightly more if we want to be in the top 5 this season. So where will they come from?

Peason   8
Church    8
Coulson  10
Hearn 15
Eagle  8
Disley 7
Spencer 10
Artus  6
Others 5

TOTAL 79

Plus I would expect our defence to be tighter, so perhaps a few more 1-0 wins will net the points this season. Any views?

The flaw in your argument is solved in your last sentence. Tighter defence. Attractive footy is nice but is secondary, we need to grind out results to get out of this league. A shed load of goals, as seen last season, isn't the answer.  As pointed out by (I think) Quakerz a while back when Cooper took over Darlo. He built from the back, not pretty and seemed to be going nowhere particular until the team clicked as a unit.

70 goals is not a shed load for a top team over a seaon, but I do agree not conceding 2 goals when we are 2-0 up will make a difference to the points tally.

Well let's say Connels goals, for a single striker, was a shedload. But yes, those infuriating goals we threw away probably did us good in the long run, alerting S&H to the immediate problems of the team. I pity the Town players having to face Scott in particular if we slacken and give up a late goal.

It was too much to hope that there would be no mention of AC on this thread!! I agree, it does not take much to get Scotty wound up and a late goal will result in water bottles being thrown about at least.

I expect Coulson to outscore Spencer. If he stays fit I think he could be good for 15.

Pearson's goal count will rely on good service - anyone know if Disley/Artus are set piece experts? Let's not forget that Garner had a decent record with the Stags too.

This is maybe the fourth time I've pointed this out in the last week, but here goes:

offence wins matches - defence wins leagues.
