Interesting appointment, I wouldn't call it disastrous, and though risky, I'd be quite excited if I were a Stockport County supporter. He's been moving around a lot in the last year but I can see him putting down roots and being successful there. Yet another strong managerial appointment in The BSP, possibly.

More worryingly for them, Steven Vaughan was rumoured to be interested in taking over there as chairman....

A Liverpool based consortium have taken over the club headed by Tony Evans who just happens to have had a history with guess who? Yes that's right Steven Vaughan.

Although just checking on Wikipedia it seems that Steven Vaughan was locked up in March for assaulting a policeman so who knows?

Stockport never learn do they. They've already had one midfield genius as manager and look how that turned out.

You could never say Palmer comes across as intelligent though could you? Where as I could always envisage hamman going into management as he seems a pretty intelligent guy. Could work out well for them. The lure of playing for him (and fowler) may attract a few players.

What knowledge of the BSP or even League's 1 & 2 is he going to have though. Could do with an experienced number 2 who knows the level and could advise of signings - not Fowler (someone in the same boat as him).

You could look at Gus Poyet as a top level player being a successful manager down at League 1 level, but he had been working at Swindon, Leeds and possibly somewhere else before he took on a managers job.

Does have positive points as mentioned above by gtfc98 but still a very risky move.

Stockport's new life begins: bids in for Ryan Lowe, Jamie McConville and Jamie Vardy for more than £150k. Hamann swoops into action.

Seems they are going to let Didi splash the cash....

A foolish move unless he is really well bankrolled. Even then it might still be a disaster. He will be another top flight player who finds out you can't instantly expect the same standards of ability or football brain from low league club players. It could work if he is a PR appointment and has someone experienced in lower league management as assistant to actually do the job for him - otherwise no. (I'll go get the flannel ready to wipe the egg off my face now )

Rumours are that Robbie fowler is his asst, so no to that theory then.

I think that top footballers struggle with the tight financial side of Lower league management.  Who was the last top footballer to be a sucessful lower league Manger,

I'll accept Sammy McIlroy

Stockport have made bids for Ryan Lowe, Jamie Vardy, and Sean McConville, BBC Radio Manchester understands.

Bury striker Lowe, 32, scored 28 goals as the Shakers were promoted from League Two last season.

Accrington Stanley midfielder McConville, 22, will train with the club with a view to a possible move.

FC Halifax Town striker Jamie Vardy scored 23 goals in 14 starts last year as the club were crowned champions of the Evo-Stick Northern Premier League.
Source

I dunno if that Vardy would fit in here, but would be great to have some extra firepower if heaven forbid we get any injury crisis.

Get rid of Duffy.

Just what I was thinking! He was influential for them last season, and finished top scorer in league 2 or something. Why would they sell him? And also why would he want to drop down to this level, makes no sense at all!

Same as with us and Connell, every player has a price, and it appears that until this investment is found out as being part of Vaughen, then Stockport have the stupid money to throw at it

How can Stockport afford to bid 50,000 for Jamie Vardy? I thought they were financially crippled?

Or have I missed something?

That sounds about right !

Not making excuses but we haven't had the best of luck with teams on the up - Ebbsfleet's fans thought they could beat us after 2-2 with Luton, even Bath got a mini 5-0 boost in the FACup ?

Guess now it's Port Vale's turn to "bounce back" after recent disappointments at home ?

Went to check our next league opponent Newport's County's recent progress since appointing Justin Edinburgh last month.

Just lost 1-0 to Ebbsfleet at home....

Clicked the match report...
http://www.newport-county.co.uk/index.php?p=match&id=138
"A mixture of the woodwork and an inspired goalkeeper was enough to halt the Newport County revival as fellow strugglers Ebbsfleet United left Spytty Park with all three points.  Whether or not the impending FA Cup game proved to be too big a distraction is open for debate; this however didn’t resemble the County side we’ve seen perform with such gusto in recent weeks."
