| The wife was going away for a girly weekend. I jokingly remarked 'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football' 'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked She said 'Well you already know how to play football' |

Not a big fan of carverys myself. On the odd occasion I've been the spuds and veg are often cold especially if its toward the end of the platter/bowl whatever and I hate having to queue up. When I go out for a meal I expect it to be served to my table. Going for a carvery just reminds me of when I used to stay for school dinners.

Never had carvery in the J&B (even though I used to live round the corner from it).
The Lynton (when it's open) and Stallingborough Grange are good for carvery.

The Hainton and the Jug and Bottle are part of the same group. They are a license to print money.....You can't cook what you get for £3.50 any day but Sunday.

Went to the Hainton last week for a carvery, not as good as J&B but the roasters were real ones whereas i think the J&B ones are out of a packet.
Carveries are ok if you want a quick filling cheap meal and if you go when they are not busy but i prefer paying more, having more choice and being waited on.
Glad to see someone does a carvery with mashed spud, will have to give it a try.

for what you pay carverys aren't bad value remember though cooks do carverys not CHEFS thats why in most "pub" type kitchens the vegetables come out boiled to oblivion a la hainton inn. for something a bit special pop on over to the millhouse at covenham, you get really well looked after and he food is spot on, some people say the prices are a bit steep but the ingredients are top quality

Pretty much every time I come back home my parents take me for a carvery, is this phenomenon just a local thing as I rarely see the same excitement in other parts? Either way I favour the Hainton, the Lynton was pretty cold when I went and we were all sat in our coats eating.

Me too, as I said before when I go out for a meal I expect it to be served to my table. Can't see any enjoyment in going out for a meal and having to queue up with all the old dears after a cheap meal for cold spuds and veg.

I like the ones on board the P&O ferries out of Hull. You can just get as much as you want, and keep going back again and again. Last time I was on board I ate TWO whole roast chickens, plus veg with each serving, LOL Bit expensive having to pay for the sailing too though
